After filler, it is normal to experience:
✨ Swelling (which may make areas initially appear more enhanced)
✨ Bruising
✨ Tenderness or soreness
✨ Temporary asymmetry while swelling settles

🛑🛑🛑 Colleagues: stop selling the syringe.

Let me explain why.

I need to be real for a moment. When I first opened my aesthetic medical practice, I sold the syringe and I sold the unit, because I did not yet appreciate the work for what it truly was.

I understand it now.

I am not selling a syringe & I am not selling a unit of Botox any more.

The provider treating your urinary tract infection is not selling you a pill twice a day. The provider is billing you for the resolution of your infection.

Medical aesthetic providers are billing not selling an outcome. That is what our patients are actually be billed for.

Here is the part we do not say out loud. When we price by volume, we teach patients to negotiate our dosing. That is not a marketing problem. That is a n egregious clinical one.

Our patients did not invent the syringe question. We, the older generation in this profession, handed it to them, and we can hand them something better now that we know more.

This is prescriptive medicine.
A medical aesthetics provider is a medical provider first: practicing within a defined scope, accountable for dosing, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics, and responsible for recognizing when a patient’s medical history or an upcoming procedure means we pause rather than proceed.

Now, let’s consider a facial. Nobody asks how many pumps of cleanser, how many sponges, or how many ounces of mask will be used. You sign up for the experience and for the result. Why did we pivot when it includes prescriptive authority?

Our profession deserves that same regard. We are diagnosing aging across multiple layers: skin, fat, muscle, and bone.

If you price per syringe; then park the Botox and the filler next to your skin care on the shelf and let the client see what they can do with it on their own…

You know me at the clinic. Let me introduce you to another part of me.

Before the first patient, before the first email, I am outside in whatever I am already wearing, opening the coop with 30+ hens pressed against the door like I have been gone a year. They come running the second they see me. Then it becomes a competition over who gets my arms and who gets my lap, and somebody is always sitting on my shoe. Occasionally I am dressed for a lecture and doing it anyway, because the chickens do not wait and neither does the day.

They consider me staff, and I accept that. They do not care about my credentials nor my curriculum vitae. They care that I show up to feed them and that I love them, and that is the entire job description.

This is where the noise stops. A farm keeps a very simple kind of time. The coop opens at first light whether or not I slept. The water gets filled. The eggs get collected, still warm, still dusty, bloom intact. Nothing about it can be optimized or rushed, and that is exactly why I need it. You cannot hurry a hen, and standing in the grass with one tucked under my chin is the only place my brain goes completely quiet.

For those that do know me; heels in the hen house is not a surprise. 🥰
