Disability Network Lakeshore

Disability Network Lakeshore DNL provides Disability support services to any individual.

All written materials and electronic communications notify individuals that alternative formats, reasonable accommodations, and/or auxiliary aids and services are provided upon request. Our staff provides information, referrals, and support to people with a wide variety of disabilities. We also work on a larger scale, helping governments, businesses, and other organizations make changes that improve life for everyone in the community.

Looking for durable medical equipment without the expense? We can help.

Our FREE Medical Equipment Loan Closet supports residents of Ottawa and Allegan Counties by providing access to essential items exactly when they’re needed most.

We offer a wide range of equipment including walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, commodes, knee scooters, toilet risers and disposable underwear. Everything in our inventory comes from generous community donations and is available at no cost.

How it works is simple: borrow what you need → use it → return it when you’re done. We handle all cleaning and preparation so each item is ready for the next person who needs it.

This program continues to grow as more neighbors reach out for support and community donations play a vital role in keeping it going strong.

If you have gently used durable medical equipment you no longer need, consider donating it so it can make a difference for someone else.

Donation Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Today, on World Multiple Sclerosis Day, we raise awareness and honor the strength and resilience of people living with MS. 💙

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting communication between the brain and body. Symptoms can vary widely and may include fatigue, mobility challenges, vision changes, pain and cognitive difficulties.

Because there are several different types of MS, the disease impacts everyone differently. Accessible wellness, support and understanding are essential. Helpful wellness strategies can include:

✨ Listening to your body and prioritizing rest
✨ Staying active in ways that feel safe and manageable
✨ Managing stress and maintaining support systems
✨ Advocating for accessibility and accommodations

Today, we recognize the experiences of those living with MS and reaffirm the importance of inclusion, accessibility and community support.

We are thrilled to announce Rachel Raak as our 2026 Ability Award Recipient!

Rachel is the founder of SolaceShield a patent-pending product designed to help hearing aid and BAHA users stay active, comfortable and confident in winter outdoor environments.

Having worn hearing aids since the age of 2.5, Rachel brings a lifetime of lived experience to developing solutions that address the unique challenges of hearing technology.

Inspired by her own experiences with discomfort and feedback while wearing cold-weather gear, Rachel transformed a personal solution into an innovative product that helps others participate more fully in running, biking, skiing and everyday outdoor activities.

Through SolaceShield, along with her advocacy and fundraising efforts to expand access to hearing technology, Rachel continues to empower others while advancing awareness, inclusion and opportunity within the hearing loss community.

Rachel’s work is a powerful example of how lived experience and innovation can come together to create practical solutions that improve accessibility and inclusion in everyday life.

She truly embodies the spirit of the Ability Award, and it was an honor to recognize her at last week’s Ability Award Gala.

It was an absolute privilege to welcome volunteers to our office for this year’s Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Day!

This friendly and hardworking group helped transform our space with a fresh coat of paint in our small conference room, copy room, interior office and women’s restroom.

It’s amazing how something as simple as paint can make such a big difference, creating a brighter, more inviting environment.

We’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy and care these volunteers shared with us. Thank you for helping make our office feel refreshed and renewed!
