Seven years ago, I was baptized.
I was actually baptized as a baby by my great-grandma Wood, but I wanted to make the choice for myself, to proclaim that I believe Jesus is my Savior and that I’m choosing to follow Him.
I knew following Jesus wouldn’t mean life would suddenly become easy. I think sometimes we can have this idea that the Christian life is supposed to make everything easier, but Jesus never promised us an easy life. And it’s not about suffering all the time either, which is something I'm learning. I can have joy even when I’m experiencing fear, anxiety, worry, or uncertainty.
Baptism is life-changing, but we have to be willing to let Christ change us. I thought I was ready then, but I was still living for the world in so many ways. As I’ve grown in my relationship with Him, I’ve realized sin doesn’t always look like a neon sign. Some things I once saw as normal, I now recognize weren’t honoring to God. And now, He’s bringing attention to the quieter things—people pleasing, criticalness, not repenting, holding onto things He’s asking me to surrender, or putting “good” things before God.
Choosing Jesus is a beautiful decision, but it’s more than a one-time decision. It’s a daily choice—to surrender, repent, trust, and ask Him for help to lead through whatever life brings. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward faith, and seven years later, my inward faith has grown so much deeper.
I’m still learning, surrendering, and choosing Jesus. 🤍
