What a big week we had! It was a great opening week! Everyone enjoyed making new friends, exploring the space, and talking about the things we’d like to do in our day program.
As some of you know Hopewell and its three Directions Day Programs are committed to being good neighbors and good citizens. Directions East has been volunteering to make their communities better since 2018. They stock blessing boxes around Charleston, help at the food bank, animal shelter, they adopted a stretch of road to keep clean.
We at Directions West want to continue that tradition. We will be starting out with two crews, the Hopewell Helpers and a crew that advocates for and educates folks on supporting our local pollinators.
So we are incredibly excited to announce that we have a space to create our first pollinator garden! We met other gardeners who rent plots there and decided to work together. So we arranged our plots together and built a fence to keep the critters out on Saturday. This week, we are cleaning up the plot, mulching, and planning with our fellow gardeners where to plant and what.
We never imagined we would have a big growing space this year, but we have been blessed beyond imagination to have this opportunity just as we open.
So grateful to everyone who has helped get us this far and everyone who has volunteered to help! Let the adventure begin!
