One year ago, on August 6th, we got the keys to this building.
We could not wait to get inside. There was no AC, it was so hot, and the building was full of junk, but none of that mattered. We bought a little cake, brought confetti poppers, and celebrated anyway because this was such a big moment for us.
Getting this building was the first real step in choosing to do things on our own. It came with a lot of big decisions, lots of late nights and long days, plenty of paint, furniture, paperwork, problem solving, and figuring things out as we went. It is wild to look back at those first pictures and see how much has changed.
We know Sycamore Point Academy has not been open for a full year yet, but we wanted to celebrate the anniversary of getting our building too. So much work happened in this place before we ever opened our doors, and it feels important to remember that part of the story.
We are especially grateful for the people who showed up to help us make it happen. The people who painted, built, moved things, cleaned, hauled junk, brought supplies, gave advice, stayed late, and jumped in wherever they were needed. This place would not look or feel the way it does without you.
This year, we kept the little cake and confetti popper tradition going. We are so grateful for the families, staff, friends, local businesses, and community members who have supported us from the beginning. Your encouragement, kind words, shares, event support, and trust have meant more than we can say.
Our lives look different now, and we are so much happier. We get to come into a place that is ours, work alongside people we genuinely care about, and watch this idea become something real every day.
Here’s to the building that started it all, the work it took to get here, and everything still ahead.
