Congratulations to the team at the UT Southwestern Medical Center Department of Nursing on their recent study being selected as the featured cover article in the June edition of Critical Care Nurse, the peer-reviewed clinical practice journal of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

The case report, Quantitative Pupillometry Obtained During Cardiac Arrest, demonstrates that obtaining quantitative pupillometry during cardiac arrest is feasible, cost-effective, and can be performed rapidly during active resuscitation efforts.

Importantly, the authors highlight that pupil reactivity serves as a biomarker of brain function that can be objectively measured using the Neurological Pupil Index (NPi). The report suggests that in patients with acquired brain injury who experience cardiac arrest, the ability to obtain rapid, objective insight into neurological function through quantitative pupillometry may help inform clinical decision-making and potentially influence the delivery of care.

This publication represents another important contribution to the growing body of evidence supporting quantitative pupillometry and NPi as a valuable tool in critical care, neurocritical care, and post-cardiac arrest management.

Congratulations to the authors and the entire UT Southwestern team on this outstanding achievement and meaningful contribution to advancing patient care.
