I could give up coffee.

I could also wake up cheerful, answer emails without rereading them three times, and become the sort of woman who says, “I don’t really need caffeine.”

But dishonesty isn’t a good look on me.

When did making friends as an adult get this hard?

When we were younger, friendship happened almost automatically. We sat next to someone in class. Played on the same team. Lived down the hall. Worked the same shift.

Then adulthood happened.

Work. Marriage. Kids. Moving. Caring for parents. Packed calendars. And suddenly you can be surrounded by people all day and still realize:

I don’t really have anyone to call.

We hear some version of this from women all the time.

It’s one of the reasons community is one of the Four Pillars of Every Girl Living—and why we created Soul Bourn.

And there are several ways to join us. Your insurance may cover Soul Bourn, it’s included with your EGL membership, or you can try EGL for 30 days for just $30 and experience Soul Bourn along with our other member offerings.

Because living well was never supposed to be something we do alone.

Come sit with us.

We spend a surprising amount of life somewhere other than where we actually are.

Replaying what happened. Rehearsing what might happen. Mentally solving problems that have not happened—and may never happen.

Meanwhile, God is here.

The present moment may not contain the whole plan, but it contains what is needed for this moment: the next faithful step, the grace to meet reality as it is and the opportunity to notice what is already good.

Acceptance brings us back to the life directly in front of us.

This breath. This conversation. This ordinary Tuesday. This chance to live well right here.

What would your dream women’s retreat look like?

What if you could step away for one weekend to actually make some space for you?

We’re exploring Rewrite Your Story, a small Friday–Sunday women’s retreat centered around rest, reflection, connection, mind-body practices, faith-informed encouragement, really good food, and space to think about what you want the next chapter of your life to look like.

We have ideas. Lots of them. But we don’t want to create our version of the perfect retreat. We want to hear what would make it your dream retreat.

Where would you want to go?
What would you want to do—or absolutely NOT do?
What would you realistically spend?
What kind of food would you want?
When would you want to go?
And what would make you look at a weekend like this and think, YES. I need that.

Our short survey takes just a few minutes, and your answers will help us shape everything from the location and activities to the food, pace, price, and overall experience.

Help us create a retreat women actually want to say yes to.

And don’t hold back—share your dream retreat ideas in the comments or send us a DM. We’re listening.

Some of our suffering comes from what happened. More can be added when we repeatedly argue with the reality that it happened.

Radical acceptance means acknowledging the truth of the present moment, especially when it is painful and cannot be changed right now. It does not mean approving of what happened, pretending it is acceptable, or remaining in a harmful situation.

Recognize reality.
Exhale.
Accept this moment.
Look for your next step.

Acceptance allows you to stop spending all your energy fighting what already exists and begin using that energy to decide how you want to respond.

You may not control what has happened. You still have choices about what comes next.

You don’t have to know what kind of therapy you need. That’s our job.

Maybe you know you’re anxious. Or exhausted. Or something happened years ago that you’re finally ready to deal with.

Maybe your daughter is struggling and you’re not quite sure what she needs.

What you probably don’t want to do is scroll through dozens of therapist profiles trying to decipher credentials, specialties and therapy approaches to figure out who might be a good fit.

That’s why we start with a free consultation at Every Girl Living.

We’ll talk with you about what’s going on, what you’re looking for, your schedule and insurance, and help you determine who on our team may be the best fit.

Our counselors work with girls and women across the lifespan experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions and more.

You don’t have to have it all figured out before you call us.

That’s what the first conversation is for.

Schedule your free consultation and let’s figure out the next step together.

I didn’t know how to start my newsletter this week. Then, while at Starbucks, a barista named Tiffany remembered MY name.

Such a small act made my morning. It was then I knew what I’d share, because I know most of us want to be remembered, seen, and acknowledged. It also reminded me of an even bigger truth: GOD knows us by name.

Also in this week’s newsletter, you’ll learn why so many people feel dread and anxiety on Sunday afternoons, plus what’s happening this week at EGL—including ConsciousBody Yoga, Soul Bourn, and MindBody Yoga.

Grab your coffee and catch up with us. ☕️

Your child brings home an A, scores the goal, makes the team, or wins the award.

“Great job! You’re so smart!”

It sounds encouraging—and it is. But when most of our praise focuses on results, children may begin to believe that success is what makes them worthy of praise.

Effort-focused praise helps them notice something more useful: what they can actually control.

The preparation.
The persistence.
The courage to try.
The willingness to learn.
The decision to keep going when something is difficult.

Results still matter, but they never tell the whole story. Sometimes a child works incredibly hard and still loses, struggles, or falls short. How we respond in those moments can help build resilience—or leave them afraid to try again.

This week From Root & Rise, we’re looking at how small changes in the way we praise our children can shape how they approach challenges, mistakes, and growth.
