Carbs are not the devil. 😈

Just because you *can* get by on very few of them doesn’t mean you SHOULD - or that it’s actually good for your body.

The vast majority of my clients come to me feeling guilty about eating carbs, and carbs are almost always the foods they binge on….

Coincidence? I think not.

The people who make peace with carbs and embrace them as a part of normal eating alongside the other food groups are the ones who stop feeling guilty, and who stop overeating and bingeing on them.

I'm sick of it. It's reached levels of diabolical proportions.

😵‍💫 The normalization and glorification of extreme thinness.
😵‍💫 Children body checking and being afraid of fatness.
😵‍💫 Spending what could be our retirement money on skincare cream.
😵‍💫 Chiropractors telling people that they can cure their autoimmune disease with a spinal adjustment and a fist full of supplements.

ENOUGH ALREADY.

It's got to stop.

The way that it stops? It's us taking a stand, calling it out, and refusing to participate in it any longer.

Are you with me?? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

If intuitive eating has turned into feeling like you’re constantly reaching for chips, cookies, chocolate, or whatever else is calling to you from the pantry…

Throwing the "junk" food away isn't going to make the situation any better.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is jumping straight from years of dieting into “I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want” and expecting their body to magically know what to do.

That’s not how you learn to trust yourself (and your body) with food again.

Your body needs consistent, reliable and predictable nourishment first. You need to PROVE to your body that the restriction isn't happening again.

You need to learn how to create meals and snacks that actually feel satisfying (and that goes beyond just tasting good - satisfaction also means what makes your body FEEL good - not give you an energy crash or stomach ache).

AND you need to intentionally practice eating the foods you feel powerless around so they can finally lose their charm.

There’s an ORDER to this work. And trying to do allllll of the aspects of intuitive eating at once is a recipe for disaster.

And when you skip the foundational pieces, you can spend months (or years 😵‍💫) thinking you’re “doing intuitive eating” while still feeling completely out of control around food.

❌ You don’t need to throw away the chips.

❌ You don’t need to replace them with the “healthier” version you secretly don’t even want.

❌ And you definitely don’t need another diet.

Instead, let's figure out what step needs your attention the most right now, and focus on that. If you need help figuring out what that next step is, take my free quiz ⤵️

I'll embrace health and feeling good alllllll day long. 💃

But I ain't gonna let diet and wellness culture fool me into thinking that means nonsense supplements, avoiding seed oils or chasing a certain BMI.

What's a piece of diet and wellness culture "health" advice that you refuse to follow?

If me saying that children should not be body checking and picking apart their bodies in the mirror, bothers you and you want to defend that behavior…that’s messed up.

Kids should not be associating and aesthetic with health. Kids frankly shouldn’t be worried about health other than having energy to run around and play.

It’s insane to me that multiple people told me I was crazy for sharing how I interrupted my son’s body checking behavior. And they accused me of projecting my own issues onto him.

This is not projection. It’s my clinical expertise and awareness that EDs and body image issues can start very young and we don’t need to be glorifying and encouraging these behaviors in children.

I refuse to further add fuel to your dysfunctional thought patterns.

But I also won't dismiss you or gaslight you into fake body positivity. 🙅‍♀️

Together we're going to look at what your body is actually telling us, and respond compassionately and according to what your body has communicated it needs.

Not all weight gain is automatically bad/unhealthy or wrong.

You also don't have to stick your head in the sand and ignore it.

We can look at it as simply a piece of data from your body....and it's a piece of data that only makes sense when we combine it with a lot of other information (see slide 13). In fact, you're probably going to want to save this post so you can refer back to it whenever you need it.

You don't break free from the chokehold diet culture has had on you by continuing to freak out about the number on the scale or tight pants.

You do it by tolerating your anxiety and making wise and supportive choices for yourself.

If you need help figuring out what that looks like, I'll see you in my DMs. 💖

If you aren’t willing to sit with the uncertainty and discomfort of doing this, intuitive eating isn’t going to work for you. 🚫

You can try to “listen to your body” all you want but if you’re still halfway doing dieting behaviors, your body is going to tell you to eat large quantities of the foods that you call “bad” because your brain is still thinking in terms of scarcity.

Stepping fully away from dieting and all the habits you’ve accumulated from it over the years is scary. I get that you are scared you’re going to gain tons of weight and be miserable.

But unless you’re willing to tolerate the uncertainty and the possibility that this might work out BETTER for you than you ever imagined, then you’re not giving yourself a fair shot for this to work.

Comment or DM me “FOOD” for my free guide on how to step away from dieting and stop thinking about food all day, and give yourself the structure you need to feel safe and healthy moving forward with intuitive eating. 💖

Not gonna lie, intuitive eating can damage your health if you are just winging it without any structure or boundaries. 🤷‍♀️

And then it leaves you feeling like you're making a terrible decision to stop dieting, and you worry you're destroying your health.

NOT IN MY WORLD. 🌎❌

That's why I created my SCAN framework to show you how to have supportive structure and gentle boundaries with your eating SO THAT you can do intuitive eating in a way that actually makes you healthier.

SCAN stands for:
⭐️ -Schedule: WHEN to eat so your body trusts that there's no scarcity

⭐️ -Composition: WHAT to eat so that you're pairing foods together for satisfaction + health

⭐️ -Amount: HOW MUCH to eat via listening to your body (the S & C parts help "recalibrate" your hunger/fullness cues!!)

⭐️ -Nutrition: ADD IN the nutrition you need for your health goals

Because of this my clients routinely send me messages about how their A1c, cholesterol, blood pressure, energy levels, digestion and food noise have improved!!

And when you're ready to feel the same way, that's when you hire me. I'll see you in my DMs.

When you’re on an intuitive eating journey, I can pretty much guarantee at some point. You will contemplate going back on another diet.

Not because intuitive eating doesn’t work… But because it’s HARD, and diet culture keeps dangling shiny new ideas in front of you.

You need to prepare yourself for this and take the steps to prevent yourself from having to constantly talk yourself out of dieting or you will waste so much time and energy spinning your wheels on the same internal conversation with yourself over and over again. 😵‍💫

This week on Episode 258 of the Rebuilding Trust With Your Body Podcast I’m breaking down the 4 CORE steps that you need to take so you don’t constantly feel tempted to return to dieting. 🎙️👀
