May is recognized as Better Hearing and Speech Month, a time to raise awareness, promote understanding, and celebrate the importance of communication in all forms. Over 40 million Americans experience speech, language, or hearing challenges.
Communication looks different for everyone, and every voice deserves to be heard, valued, and supported. Join us this month as the Lawrence Advisory Council on Disabilities is excited to highlight and celebrate the launch of a county-wide closed captioning initiative focused on creating more inclusive and accessible experiences for everyone in public spaces.
Accessibility matters. Closed captioning not only supports individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, but also benefits people in noisy environments, individuals learning English, older adults, and many others. Efforts like this help create communities where everyone feels welcomed, included, and connected.
Together, we can continue building a more inclusive Lawrence where all individuals have opportunities to connect, communicate, and thrive.
