Great to see so many business and community leaders gather for this month’s Health & Wellness Expo Luncheon at the Nampa Civic Center. Kudos to the Idaho Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs for organizing the event that showcased regional health and wellness resources and encouraged attendees to prioritize preventive care. Regence member Jeffrey Trela-Hoskins, 26, lives with a rare neurological disorder. When he was discharged from the hospital earlier this year with a new feeding tube, his family was counting on a timely delivery of supplies. But the delivery stalled, and they were down to the last tube feeding.

His mom, Patty, called Regence Care Manager Kimberley S., RN, BSN.

Kimberley identified the hold-up, contacted the provider's clinic and made sure the right people were urgently paged. The next day, Patty called her back. "I don't know what you did, but they're delivering everything we need tonight.”

Kimberley's intervention helped Jeffrey get the right care at the right time. The family avoided another hospitalization and saved an estimated $43,000 in potential inpatient costs.

For Patty, it's about more than logistics. It's about trust. "Sometimes you feel like you're all alone in healthcare, and you're not getting what you need,” she says. Working with a Regence care manager is “like having a friend on the inside."

It was once again Regence’s honor to support this year’s NAIA World Series in our hometown of Lewiston. The community support – as always – was exceptional and the ten participating teams from across the country played their hearts out every game.

A special note of congratulations to the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs, who were “volunteer coached” by one of Regence’s own baseball superfans. A special thanks to all who made this year’s series so memorable!

The American Heart Association has updated its blood pressure recommendations. It says keeping your systolic number at or below 120 is key to reducing your risk of heart attack, stroke and heart failure. The good news? You have options. Affordable medications, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight and quitting smoking can all make a real difference.

When a Regence member went to the ER multiple times for chest pains and cardiac testing found nothing wrong, Behavioral Health Care Manager Amy Beitia was able to see what tests couldn’t. She uncovered the real cause of the member’s pain: panic attacks triggered by PTSD.

Beitia connected the member to trauma-focused therapy and a virtual cardiac specialist. The chest pains went away. Healthcare costs went down. And the member reported feeling better than they had in years.

These families, often called kinship families, frequently face isolation and stress as caregivers navigate the demands of parenting, aging and complex legal systems.
