SOS In so doing, SOS succeeds in improving healthcare for the poor and underserved around the world, including in our own region.

SOS improves healthcare access for those in need locally and around the world by collecting surplus medical supplies from healthcare systems and using the items to save lives rather than going into landfills. SOS is a Louisville, KY based humanitarian aid organization that promotes global health, environmental stewardship, and community awareness through the efficient recovery and responsible dist

A Record-Breaking Day of Mobility and Hope! ♿❤️

This past Saturday, SOS welcomed 22 individuals to our Free Wheelchair & Mobility Aid Clinic — the highest number served at a single clinic to date. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we provided free repairs, cleaning, and assessments for wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility equipment for people from across Louisville.

The stories shared were a powerful reminder of why this work matters. One veteran received much-needed repairs to his wheelchair and explained the daily challenge of having his chair dragged down four steps just to leave his home. Now our team is helping him with a ramp for safer access and improved independence.

A special thank you to our volunteers and community partners for helping us remove barriers, restore mobility, and improve lives—one repair at a time.

From surplus to surgery. ❤️

Thanks to medical supplies provided by SOS, a team of 28 healthcare professionals traveled to Honduras and completed 89 life-changing surgeries for patients who otherwise may never have received care.

The supplies helped support procedures such as hernia repairs, breast surgeries, gallbladder surgeries, knee arthroscopies, and more. Patients traveled from across the country, some driving 6–8 hours, to receive treatment at no cost.

Stories like these remind us that every donated supply has the power to change a life.

Hands-on learning makes all the difference! 💙

Thanks to donated medical supplies from SOS, students at Danville High School gained real-world healthcare experience practicing vital signs, wound care, suturing, phlebotomy, PPE use, and more.

By repurposing surplus medical supplies, we're helping inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals while keeping valuable resources out of landfills.

Opossums like this adorable guy are getting a second chance thanks to wildlife rehabilitator Noelle and the support of donated medical supplies from SOS.

A state-permitted rehabilitator, Noelle cared for and released 45 orphaned and injured opossums last year alone. Supplies like syringes and disposable underpads help reduce her costs and allow her to care for more animals in need.

"Helping save these precious lives helps balance our ecosystem," says Noelle.

From helping people to saving wildlife, every donated supply has the power to make a difference. 💙

🌎 Today is World Environment Day, and at SOS, protecting the environment goes hand in hand with improving lives.

The U.S. generates nearly 6 million tons of medical waste each year, yet much of what is discarded is still usable. By recovering surplus medical supplies and equipment, SOS helps keep valuable resources out of landfills and puts them into the hands of people who need them most—right here in Louisville and beyond.

In this video, two of our community partners - Pushing Forward and Louisville Outreach for the Unsheltered - share how these supplies are making a real difference for the people they serve every day.

Since 1993, SOS has recovered more than 6 million pounds of medical supplies and equipment while improving the lives of more than 14 million people.💙

Sometimes the simplest gifts can make the biggest difference. 💙

Recently, SOS was able to provide a wheelchair requested by the team at Goodwill Opportunity Center for Orville McKinney. We were touched to receive a video of Orville expressing his gratitude and sharing what this support means to him.

Thank you to everyone who helps make moments like this possible through SOS.

One of the most rewarding moments at SOS is when volunteers get to see the impact of their work firsthand.💙

Retired nurses and SOS volunteers Adriane and Jean were packing an order for Love Without Reason when Susan Mathews stopped by to pick it up. Susan took the time to meet them, thank them personally, and share how the supplies will support her team's upcoming mission to Kenya, where they provide life-changing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries.

Volunteers often help pack orders without ever meeting the people they are helping. This special connection was a powerful reminder that every box packed at SOS changes lives.

Thank you, Adriane and Jean, for your dedication, and best wishes to the Love Without Reason team on their upcoming mission. 🌍

A Southern Indiana mom recently shared how SOS made a life-changing difference for her 14-year-old daughter, who had become so discouraged by her medical challenges that she no longer wanted to leave her room.

After being referred to SOS by a former preschool teacher familiar with our mission, the family received the support they needed — and her daughter became excited to participate in her school’s field day. 💙

Moments like this remind us that the right medical support can restore confidence, independence, and hope. Thank you for helping SOS make stories like this possible.
