Happy Juneteenth.
While only becoming a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated for generations. The date, June 19, represents the day the final slaves were made aware of their freedom in 1865. Adding significance to the date is that the Emancipation Proclamation (freeing all slaves in the South) was announced two years prior. Today, Juneteenth is part of the 21 days known as the "Honor America Days". The other dates are Flag Day (June 14) and Independence Day (July 4).

The North Wing family picnic was a success once again. Of course, the weather couldn’t let us off without a scratch. As soon as we all came outside and were ready to begin, we got hit with a 20 minute “monsoon”. We made it through, dried off the best we could, and spent the rest of our time in the sunshine interacting with Elvis and eating a wonderful meal provided by dietary staff.

Thanks again to the families, residents, and team members who made this event possible.
