Most surgeries require no less than 6 weeks minimum of light to modified activity.

Ensure your surgeon or consultant is providing clear guidance on a safe and realistic recovery timeline.

Unfortunately - ads do exist claiming “no downtime” - which is impossible.

While most post op patients do feel very well within 3-5 days, a general, safe and realistic recovery timeline looks like this:

First week - very light, avoid intentional lifting/bending/straining, avoid any intentional heart rate or blood pressure elevation.

Often - some if not all suture are removed at the one week post op appointment.

Week 2-6 continue light modified activity only - such as short slow paced walks for well being, avoid sweating and continue avoiding lifting/bending/straining (under 5 lbs ok for daily necessities)

6 weeks is a special milestone in surgery because most patients’ surgical sites are at full strength of healing integrity - so we typically reduce or release any activity retrains at this post op visit.

At 3 months post operative expect minimal to no remaining swelling, and results should be final and stable at this time.

Please defer to your surgeon for your specific procedure as there are always nuances per case and situation.

Advice: Choose training over trends + Safety over price.

When choosing a plastic surgeon, first confirm they are board (eligible or) certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).

This certification reflects years of rigorous surgical training, comprehensive examinations, and an ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and ethical care within the specialty of plastic surgery.

It’s not the only factor—but it’s one of the most important.

Always ask: Where will my surgery be performed?

⚠️Please proceed with caution if offered “In office” for major procedures. This is typically done for cost savings and convenience - and depending on the procedure may not be the safest option. Please ask and ensure your surgeon is credentialed at certified surgery centers and/or hospitals.

When you leave a consultation, you should always walk away feeling informed, safe and never pressured!

If you or someone you know is considering plastic surgery please share this so they can choose safely. There are MANY great caring surgeons - but unfortunately there are just as many times to beware.
