Transitions: Birth Services for Every Body

Transitions: Birth Services for Every Body Welcoming to LGBTQ and non-traditional family structures. In 1998, I attended my first birth as a doula. At Transitions, you will find all three of these things.

Lucky Tomaszek is a licensed midwife providing community midwifery care, including prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, on a flexible fee scale in SE Wisconsin. From the moment I joined that family in labor, I knew that I had finally found the place where I belonged. In the almost 20 years since that first birth, I have also become a sexuality educator and a writer. My focus is always on providin

g respectful, inclusive care for all people. I believe that knowledge (about our bodies, about birth, about sex, about pleasure, health, gender) give us the power to make the decisions that are best for us as individuals. I believe that communication links us and provides understanding of our needs. And I believe that community holds us up and gets us through the good and the hard times.

Reminder: supporting baby feeding in public (including church) is part of family values, public health, and being a decent human being.

The way people comment in public about how gross or inappropriate they think it is to feed a baby in public or for there to be videos and images online of a baby feeding is so cringe. I can't imagine announcing to the world that I am the kind of person to seggsualize a baby feeding or to be so repressed that I think it is inappropriate to feed a baby in public.

Yikes. Imagine doing that publicly and hating on babies being loved and fed.

This classic art piece is how I've been feeling lately about people complaining about seeing breastfeeding online or in public.

***Don't spray someone with your milk without permission, it could be considered assault or something.***

Just like this little angel, we’ll be sipping coffee at The Daily Bird this morning. We’ve had a BUSY two weeks, and we’re looking forward to getting back in to the community. If you have questions about your reproductive health, or you just want to say hi, please come by!

About two weeks ago, I sent an email update to every current and past client that I have contact information for. Now and I want to share our very exciting news with all of our friends and followers, too!

We have finally found a new building. After more than two years of walk-throughs, declined offers, houses snatched by investment corporations, buildings that needed hundreds of thousands of dollars in critical repair work, hopes and dreams, and broken hearts - we've found our new home!

In early October, we'll be moving into an adorable duplex and staying in the Riverwest neighborhood. Betty and I will live in the upper unit while the lower will house our clinic space and the birth suite (with an even bigger tub!). And this space will have a waiting area in case you arrive early for appointments! We've been quietly adding books to our lending library for a long time, and now we'll have the proper space to get them all on shelves for you to browse. The backyard is a little bigger, too, and fully fenced in so kids will be safe when playing during our outdoor events. Tori will continue teaching childbirth education from our office, and the space is larger to accommodate more families in a class at one time.

We have loved our little clinic/birth suite on Fratney Street, and more than that - we have loved sharing it with you. If you have fond memories of coming to appointments or craft nights, picking out pumpkins or celebrating the art of midwifery, or of laboring and birthing in the space, you are not alone! And we hope from the bottom of our hearts that you will come and visit our new space, too. Even if you're not planning a pregnancy - you are welcome here! We want to share our new home with our friends and neighbors, and each and every one of our TBS Families.

More good news! Our annual pumpkin giveaway will be in the new Burleigh location - watch for more details coming soon! You are all warmly invited to come by during the giveaway to see our new space and visit your midwives! We have a lot to do before then, and we'll be busy, busy, busy working to make this new space as cozy and inviting as our current location!

If you are a client who is currently in care with us and you have questions about the transitions to our new space, please reach out! We're happy to speak with you about it.

Thank you all for working with us and trusting us with your care for the last six years. We believe we've built something really special at Transitions, and we're so happy to be in community with you!

Such a sweet sight! A “do not disturb” sign on our client’s front door as she earnestly labors inside.
