Since truly informed consent requires that we are informed, parents please be aware that Measles is not “an illness we do not need to concern ourselves about”. It is real. It is in Kentucky right now.
We live in an information overload environment and fear of making the “perfect” decision can be paralyzing.
Each of you and each of your children matter. You are NOT just numbers on a statistics report. The number of people that contracted measles in the US has already more than doubled since last year. Over 4,000 real people. so far this year, 414 have need to be hospitalized. We do not put people in the hospital for kicks…to go and stay, you have to be really sick.
1. Vaccines introduce a small amount of antigen that would normally make you sick in larger amounts and allow your immune system to build a defense. They done keep you from GETTING a virus. They help your body be ready to fight HARDER and QUICKER when you see it.
2. There are plenty of “maybes” to consider. I highly recommend not letting a “maybe” overshadow a “likely”. 10% is 1 out of every 10 diagnosed that landed in the hospital. That is worth another look and a good conversation with whomever cares for you and your family.
Most recent info (as of 10/08/2026):

Nationally, there have now been 3,887 cases in 47 states. 95% have been unvaccinated. Nationally, 9% have required hospitalization with the highest age groups requiring hospitalization being those 5years and under (14%) and those 20+ years of age (12%).
