Call to schedule with Bridget.. available NOW! 231-726-2299

Bridget McHugh, MA, Intern

Bridget is passionate about working with adolescents, young adults, couples, and adult women. She believes that every person has the capacity to take control of their life and emotional experiences. Bridget helps clients move toward this goal by creating a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where they can explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges openly.

Bridget is gaining experience in a person-centered approach to therapy while integrating elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) throughout the counseling process. She incorporates mindfulness interventions to help clients become more grounded and increase self-awareness. Bridget believes that the most important factor in a client’s success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship and leans on her sense of humor and curiosity to build and strengthen that relationship.

Central to Bridget’s therapeutic approach is the belief that what lies between a person's current self and their best self is the willingness to authentically experience their pain, anxieties, and desires. Her hope for clients is that they can identify and connect with their authentic selves while learning how and where they can live from that place in their daily lives. Through mindfulness and self-exploration, Bridget helps clients develop greater awareness, acceptance, and intentionality in the way they engage with themselves and the world around them.

Add some Positive Affirmation to your Day Everyday!

Your mind is always listening. Every thought, every word—it’s all being recorded, shaping the way you see yourself and the world. That’s why the things you tell yourself matter.

Positive affirmations are short statements that shape your mindset, rewire your brain, and strengthen your self-belief. Unlike positive quotes (which themselves can be inspiring), affirmations take it a step further to help influence the way you think, feel, and act.

Self-esteem in children is their sense of self-worth, confidence, and liking themselves, which fuels resilience, social skills, and academic success. It is developed through secure attachment, feeling loved, and experiencing competence. Key approaches to building it include praising effort over outcome, allowing mistakes, offering choices, and encouraging independent problem-solving.

It's National Donut Day!

National Donut Day or National Doughnut Day, celebrated in the United States and in some other countries, is on the first Friday of June of each year, succeeding the donut event created by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor those of their members who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

*Atlas of the Heart*

Number one New York Times best seller In her latest book, Brené Brown writes, “If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and to be stewards of the stories that we hear. Celebrate Love, Identity & Freedom.

Pride is more than a month. It’s a movement, a celebration, and a reminder that every soul deserves to live out loud and love without limits.

At HPA we support our LGTQIA+ community and their families with inclusivity, advocacy, education, and ....(of course) therapy.

Happy Pride Community!
