What that viral EDS collagen photo actually shows…
You’ve seen this image floating around claiming to show “hypermobile collagen” under a microscope. Let’s break down what each panel really is — because the internet’s version and the actual 2001 paper (Bristow & Mao, J Clin Invest) tell very different stories. THANK YOU TISSUE RESEARCHERS! This is a prayer for more intel for hEDS and all the EDS spectrum.
a — Normal collagen 🫧
Healthy control tissue. Uniform, evenly spaced fibrils. This is the baseline

Doing the splits is super impressive! But, not great for your bod.

Take it from me! As a former professional ballerina, I used to be splitting all the time. Now that I’m not, my body feels much better.

Swipe through to read about our body’s natural movements — doing what we know we should do, rather than just what we think we should do.

Happy Flossing 🙆🏽‍♀️

That’s not a strength issue, a motor control issue, nor you not trying hard enough issue …it’s just some dense / overly patterned / protecting / adapted fascia! And your fascia adapted for good reason. So say thank you good work! Then we can create a new format.

Here is the real question tho - why won’t your side/body fascia allow your shoulders down? Take a guess !!! My level 1 and 2 trainees can tell me why. Otherwise I will divulge in coming reels! (Ps LEVEL 1 training is the first weekend of Oct virtual and in person!)

Let’s get your shoulders in a comfortable position!

Xx

Science put itself in the seat of the ultimate authority, but the body still outpaces it!

The classical version of anatomy is so “PARTS” oriented that they missed the fabric of continuity ! The organ of connection ! The FASCIA - perhaps the most important aspect of our form / existence ! For so many reasons but the most basic being we would slosh to the floor in a pile of cells without our fascia ! That’s just the beginning.

The concept of BODY AS MACHINE perfectly aligned with the Vienna’s Circle way of referencing the world, our existence and the body. If it’s a machine it can be broken up and dissected, analyzed and understood.

While science is fffffing awesome and so many things like organ replication is happening faster than ever to save lives (woo!!!)…the body still possesses mystery, intelligence and a deep level of organizational intelligence that we may never comprehend!

This is all to stay that you are a walking genius ! Even if our bodies don’t do all the things we want them to do, remember part of those expectations are derived culturally and the other part is our bodies are doing incredible things even in the darkest of times. And that means YOU - you are doing it. You are brilliant. Keep going. Love you.

Controversial question … So is the soul actually separate from the body? You tell me! But I have an inkling it is not! Let’s see if we find out in this life time.

Hi I am Bon and I have been helping people support their fascia for 16 years and I first got wind of this history from reading Joanne Avison’s book. It floored me! And it makes so much sense as it speaks to part of the reason why western anatomy views the body like it’s a machine - a form made from a bunch of parts!

It’s not tho! We are whole when we form and remain whole - the fascia being the primordial material that makes us and our wholeness possible and continues as such, the fabric of our continuity illustrating in the flesh that we are whole, complete and self contained.

Follow along for part 2 on how being viewed as a machine limits how we self reference and there for limits our personal power!

Fascia may be commonly known as the tissue that wraps, surrounds, and supports muscles, bones, organs — all of our “parts”. But this definition doesn’t adequately describe fascia’s profound nature in being the unifying and organizing principle of our bodies — it’s the original fabric of our form. The fascia is a continuous web / matrix, and while it is just as global — an expression of our wholeness — as it is minute / intricate, it specializes and varies in texture/format/density/function based on location.

Some notes and musings inspired by John Sharkey, Joanne Avison, Mark Flannigan 💡💡💡

Supporting your fascia is not for the faint of heart. But taking care of it is the fountain of youth 🪽
