PARENTS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT STRAWBERRIES 🍓✨

strawberries are one of the fruits we go through CONSTANTLY in our house + they’re also one of the foods i prioritize buying organic because they tend to rank high on the dirty dozen list (more details below)

if you came right to the caption, there’s been growing concern around pesticide use in california strawberry growing communities, including spraying pesticides near schools

and recent independent lab testing of conventional driscoll’s strawberries found residues from 12 different pesticides, including 8 the report classified as pfas related pesticides (aka forever chemicals)

but it’s important to note that the organic driscoll’s sample was also tested + none of the pesticides screened for were detected

so no, i’m not telling you to stop eating strawberries, BUT if you’ve been buying conventional this is one more reason you may want to prioritize organic strawberries when you can 👍🏻

the dirty dozen are the fruits + vegetables the ewg found had the most pesticide residues and the list currently includes:

1. spinach
2. kale, collard + mustard greens
3. strawberries
4. grapes
5. nectarines
6. peaches
7. cherries
8. apples
9. blackberries
10. pears
11. potatoes
12. blueberries

but whether i’m buying organic OR conventional, i still thoroughly clean all my produce

HERE’S WHAT I DO ⬇️

✨ add 1 tsp baking soda for every 2 cups of filtered water
✨ soak for about 15 minutes
✨ rinse thoroughly under running water

washing produce can help reduce some surface pesticide residues, but it can’t remove every pesticide residue which is why i still prioritize organic for foods like strawberries when possible

and yes, this strawberry situation warranted busting out the fluffy mic 🙃

did you know about everything going on with driscoll’s btw?!

and i’m genuinely curious…are you buying conventional strawberries, driscoll’s organic, another organic brand, local…what are we all doing?!

FRIDAY NIGHTS IN THE 90s 📼✨

there was just something about going to blockbuster on a friday night, picking out one movie + making a night of it

so we’ve been bringing it back with our kids! every week we pick a movie from the 80s or 90s, make homemade popcorn (without seed oils of course) + “friday night movie night” has become something we all look forward to each week ❤️

i love getting to share some of our childhood favorites with them while creating new traditions and memories of our own

a few of our favorites so far (in no particular order): goonies, mighty ducks, the sandlot, mrs. doubtfire, homeward bound, honey i shrunk the kids, ET, home alone, jumanji + hook

fellow millennials, what movie from our childhood do i HAVE to show my kids next?!
