💚 A BIG THANK YOU TO United Way of Anderson County (UWAC) & Oak Ridge National Laboratory ! 🍂

We had a wonderful Day of Service at the Emory Valley Center Early Learning Center, and we are so grateful to United Way and the amazing team from ORNL for spending the day with us!

The ORNL volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help with projects on one of our playgrounds, making the space even more beautiful for our little learners! 🛝 They also helped spruce up our sign with beautiful fall decorations that they generously donated. 🍁🍂

We are so thankful for community partners who give their time, talents, and resources to make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. Your kindness and support help make our Early Learning Center an even more welcoming and special place!

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) to Emory Valley Center for a wonderful morning of connection, learning, and meaningful interaction!

CIT is a 40-hour training program that equips law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively respond to individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The training focuses on recognizing signs of mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and other factors that may impact a person’s behavior or communication, while emphasizing de-escalation techniques and appropriate community resources.

We were especially excited to have the CIT group spend time at EVC, where they had the opportunity to tour our facility, meet our incredible staff, and spend time with the people we support.

These real-world interactions are such an important part of CIT training. Meeting and connecting with people with IDD in a non-crisis setting allows officers to learn directly from their experiences, better understand behaviors that could potentially be misinterpreted during a crisis, and practice communication strategies that promote understanding and reduce escalation.

We are grateful for the opportunity to open our doors and help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-life experiences in our community. Most importantly, we loved having the CIT group with us and appreciated the time they spent getting to know our EVC family!

🎥 A New Project Is Underway!

We’re excited to kick off a new project focused on helping current and future employees better understand DSP shifts and pay at Emory Valley Center!

Our Senior Vice President of Operations, Crystal, and Vice President of Finance, Wes, joined us to begin working on a video that will explain shift options, pay, and what DSPs can expect when joining the EVC team.

We’re excited to bring this helpful resource to life and can’t wait to share the finished project!
