Equine pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) can be a complicated condition with some complicated vocabulary. Let’s break down some terms commonly associated with PPID:

Pars Intermedia- the section of the pituitary gland affected by PPID

Hypertrichosis- a long, sometimes curly, hair coat that does not shed

ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)- one of the main hormones that increases with PPID and is tested during diagnosis and monitoring of the condition

TRH Stimulation Test- a more sensitive diagnostic test sometimes used in early or unclear cases
