Congratulations to Ginny Alfonso, RN, Community Health Nurse, Valley Home Care’s DAISY Award winner for the first quarter of 2026, presented by The DAISY Foundation.

Here is an excerpt from her winning nomination:

“My father-in-law had been housebound and eventually bedridden for close to two years. I wanted to acknowledge his nurse, Ginny, whom he adored!

“He looked forward to seeing her and having a nice conversation with her. She was always so kind and cheerful while maintaining a professional relationship.

“Ginny was an important part of his life, along with his health aide. Together, they worked as a team, and Ginny was always hands-on!

“Ginny was a loving, caring, nurse who always answered a call regarding any of our concerns – a true professional with a huge heart!

“Unfortunately, my father-in-law recently passed, but he truly loved Ginny, and he would nominate her if he could.

“We would like to nominate Ginny for the DAISY Award because she is truly an extraordinary nurse who has always gone above and beyond with a smile on her face.”

Following the thoughtful discussions generated by The Final Act Part I: A Conversation on End-Of-Life Choices, a theatrical performance hosted by Valley Hospice last November, community members are invited to continue the conversation at The Final Act Part II: Setting the Stage for Hospice Care.

Taking place on Sunday, November 1, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church, located at 6 South Monroe Street, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, this powerful live theatrical production offers a compassionate and realistic look at the hospice journey. Through storytelling, drama, humor, and education, the program explores what hospice care truly provides beyond the final days of life, including expert symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, caregiver education, crisis prevention, and guidance through difficult transitions.

Building on themes introduced during The Final Act Part I, this performance deepens the understanding of hospice care and encourages meaningful conversations about personal wishes, goals, and support.

"Many people are unfamiliar with hospice care or don't learn about its benefits until they are facing difficult circumstances," said Maribeth Kearney, Director of Valley Hospice. "This production offers an engaging and approachable way to learn about hospice while creating space for important conversations about care, comfort, and quality of life."

The event is open to patients, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, and members of the community interested in learning more about hospice care and advance care planning. Attendance is free, but advanced registration is required.

Located at Valley Health System – Ridgewood Campus, the newly updated Earl A. Wheaton, Jr., MD, Family Care Center offers comprehensive primary and specialty care for patients of all ages, from infants to seniors.

Services include adult and pediatric care, women’s health, prenatal and postnatal care, and specialty care from urology, maternal-fetal medicine, and gynecologic oncology providers. The Center also supports Valley’s internal medicine residency program, offering extended time with patients and continuity of care.

Social workers are on site daily, and patients can access lab work, imaging, and rehab therapy at the same location. The Center’s staff also assists patients with Medicaid enrollment and other services.

The Center welcomes all patients, including those with Medicaid, Medicare, Charity Care, private insurance, or no insurance. To schedule an appointment, call 201-689-3900 (option 1).
