The Valley Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring individuals experiencing stroke receive timely, appropriate treatment based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately helping to save lives and reduce disability.

Stroke is the number four cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel supplying the brain is blocked by a clot or ruptures, preventing blood and oxygen from reaching brain tissue. When this happens, brain cells begin to die. Early detection and rapid treatment are critical to improving survival, minimizing disability, and supporting faster recovery.

The Get With The Guidelines - Stroke program is an in-hospital initiative designed to improve stroke care through consistent adherence to these guidelines, as noted by both organizations. The program aims to minimize the long-term effects of stroke and help prevent death.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the American Heart Association,” said David Rivera, DNP, Assistant Vice President of Medical Surgical Services at The Valley Hospital. “This achievement reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to delivering timely, evidence-based stroke care and improving outcomes for the patients and communities we serve.”

Congratulations to Jamie DeVisser, RN, Labor and Delivery, The Valley Hospital’s DAISY Award winner for January 2026, presented by The DAISY Foundation.

Here is an excerpt from her winning nomination: “When Jamie started her shift, I had already been in labor for about 27 hours with little progress over the last 12. I was induced, exhausted, and overwhelmed, and my anxiety, which I have struggled with my entire life, was beginning to take over.

“From the moment she walked into the room, Jamie brought a sense of calm and focus that grounded me. She didn’t rush my husband or me or focus only on the monitors. Instead, she took the time to truly get to know us.

“She sat with us for well over an hour, listening, asking thoughtful questions, and learning what we needed emotionally as much as physically. Jamie used different techniques to help reduce my anxiety, meeting me exactly where I was, and making me feel genuinely seen and heard. Her presence alone was reassuring, and her care helped me relax in a way that directly impacted my labor.

“Shortly after she took over my care, my daughter was born with no complications. I truly believe that Jamie’s compassion, patience, and emotional support played a critical role in that outcome. She cared for me not just as a patient, but as a person, and I will be forever grateful for the way she supported me during one of the most important moments of my life.”
