πŸŽ‰ Happy World Music Therapy Week! 🎢

Every day this week, we're sharing resources and stories to celebrate this amazing field! Today we have music therapist Taylor sharing an awesome song that she wrote! 🎢

Music therapy works within a variety of domains, one of which addresses social/emotional needs. Social songs can be used as a way to discuss feelings and regulation needs in an engaging and individualized way. Due to the repetitive nature of music, social songs have a reliable structure that may provide additional support for students learning social-emotional skills.

In this song, the volume and speed of the guitar accompaniment provides an additional level of musical support when identifying feelings. This social song can be used to work on skills like identifying and matching emotion-based facial expressions, associating common actions and movements with emotions (cry=sad, stomp=mad), and identifying then implementing coping strategies. The lyrics can be adjusted to include any emotion or coping skill that is appropriate for a student's needs.
