Arizona Bleeding Disorders

Arizona Bleeding Disorders Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with inherited bleeding disorders.

Bleeding disorders are life-threatening, debilitating, and expensive to treat with many physical, emotional and social challenges. A child with severe Hemophilia will spend over $150,000 annually to prevent bleeding. Some children and adults build up inhibitors to the treatment and the costs can exceed $1,000,000 per year. Failure to preventatively treat the disorder can result in prolonged painfu

l bleeds that cause permanent and severe damage. Proper medical care and an ability to manage through the ‘insurance maze’ becomes paramount. Teens need to fully appreciate the importance of getting a quality education so that they can get a job with sufficient insurance. The entire family is affected by the bleeding disorder physically, emotionally, and financially. With over 40 years experience, we are the only agency in the state of Arizona that provides programs and services to people affected by bleeding disorders so that they can better cope with their disorder and can become self-advocates for themselves and/or their family. We partner with Hemophilia Treatment Centers, other agencies, and medical professionals to provide programs and services unique to the bleeding disorder community to best meet their needs.

We’re so excited to highlight our 2026 Advocate of the Year, Timothy!

Timothy joined our Future Leaders Program for the first time this year and absolutely killed it! From the beginning, he took the program seriously and understood that the work he was doing was bigger than himself. He showed up ready to advocate for his family and the entire bleeding disorders community.

Throughout the program, Timothy spoke confidently about the issues affecting our community, asked questions, stayed engaged, and had a great attitude. Even though this was his first year in Future Leaders, advocacy seemed to come naturally to him.

It’s exciting to see a young person recognize the power of using their voice for something bigger than themselves, and we can’t wait to see how Timothy continues to advocate and stay involved in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Timothy! We’re so proud to name you our 2026 Advocate of the Year!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for BleedHERS in Tucson last week!

We loved being able to bring BleedHERS to Tucson and create a space for women in our community to connect, spend time together, and get to know each other’s experiences. Thank you to Novo Nordisk for helping make this event possible! We had such a great time and can’t wait to be back soon!

Passing the Pinecone Spotlight: Gio Pernudi!

As part of Camp HONOR's leadership transition this year, we asked past Camp Directors to reflect on their time leading Camp HONOR and the legacy they hope continues.

For Gio, one lesson stood above the rest, "The Arizona bleeding disorders community is the great thing that it is today because of our community, and we should all want to keep it that way by continually giving back to it and being active participants."

Our mentors won't be around forever! Gio reminds us that it's our job to motivate the next generation to keep Camp HONOR going for years to come.

We’re so excited to highlight our 2026 Volunteer of the Year, Aaden! Aaden is always looking for the next way to help out. Whether he’s volunteering at events like Zoo Walk and our Back to School Backpack event, consistently showing up for our teen programs, or being there when we need an extra hand, we know we can count on him.

He even got called in the day before Camp HONOR to help make seaweed for our SpongeBob decorations! But that’s Aaden, he’s always willing to jump in wherever needed.

Thank you for your dedication and the countless hours you’ve given to this community. We’re incredibly grateful to have you in our community and can’t wait to see how you continue to show up and contribute in the years ahead. Congratulations, Aaden!
