🌟 Friday Fact: Compassionate Allowances (CAL) 🧡

Did you know… the Social Security Administration (SSA) recently added 14 new conditions to its Compassionate Allowances (CAL) program, bringing the total to 314 conditions?

CAL helps fast-track disability determinations for individuals with serious, rare, and severe medical conditions, helping reduce wait times and provide access to benefits sooner.

The 14 New Conditions:
🔹 Adenylosuccinate Lyase Deficiency – Neonatal Form and Type 1
🔹 Aicardi Syndrome
🔹 Baraitser-Winter Syndrome
🔹 Beare-Stevenson Cutis Gyrata Syndrome
🔹 Bohring-Opitz Syndrome
🔹 CASK-Related Gene Disorders
🔹 Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma
🔹 Lafora Disease
🔹 Malignant Migrating Partial Seizures of Infancy (MMPSI)
🔹 OPHN1 Syndrome
🔹 Primary Cardiac Sarcoma
🔹 Primary Intracranial Malignant Melanoma
🔹 Uveal Melanoma with Metastases
🔹 Warburg Micro Syndrome

Why It Matters:
✔ CAL can help eligible individuals receive faster disability determinations
✔ The program helps reduce barriers for people with severe medical conditions
✔ Expanding CAL means more individuals may be able to access needed benefits sooner

🧡 Big takeaway: Compassion in action means removing barriers and helping people access the support they need when they need it most.

🌟 Friday Fact: Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS) 💼

Did you know… a Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS) can help you save for your career goals without reducing your SSI benefits?

A PASS allows eligible individuals to set aside income and/or resources to pay for expenses needed to reach a specific work goal. When approved by Social Security, those funds are not counted when determining SSI eligibility or payment amounts.

Here's what you need to know:
🔹 Your work goal must be specific, realistic, and expected to reduce or eliminate your dependence on disability benefits
🔹 Your PASS must be approved by Social Security before it takes effect
🔹 PASS funds can only be used for approved work-related expenses, such as education, vocational training, transportation, tools, equipment, licenses, uniforms, childcare, or starting a business
🔹 Keep receipts and records of how PASS funds are spent
🔹 Report any changes in employment, income, expenses, or your work goal to Social Security

Why It Matters:
✔ PASS lets you invest in your future while protecting your SSI benefits
✔ It can help pay for the tools and resources you need to achieve your employment goals
✔ For some SSDI beneficiaries, PASS may reduce countable income enough to establish SSI eligibility while pursuing work

🎯 Big takeaway: PASS is one of Social Security's most valuable work incentives, helping you build toward employment while protecting your benefits.

Need help determining whether a PASS is right for you? enTRUST Services, LLC provides Work Incentives Benefits Counseling to help beneficiaries understand PASS and other Social Security work incentives before making employment decisions.

🌟 Friday Fact: "No Tax on Tips" Doesn't Mean "No Countable Income" 💵

Did you know… tax-free tips can still affect your Social Security benefits?

While the new federal "No Tax on Tips" law may reduce federal income taxes for many workers, it does not change how Social Security or Medicaid count your earnings.

Here's what you need to know:
🔹 Tips are still considered earned income by Social Security
🔹 Tips are still subject to Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes
🔹 Tips must still be reported to the Social Security Administration (SSA)
🔹 Tips are still used to determine eligibility for SSI, SSDI work incentives, and some Medicaid programs

Why It Matters:
✔ Tax-free for federal income tax does not mean excluded from benefit calculations
✔ Tips may reduce SSI payments after income exclusions are applied
✔ Tips count toward SSDI work incentives like the Trial Work Period (TWP) and Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA)
✔ Reporting your wages and tips helps protect your benefits

🎯 Big takeaway: The "No Tax on Tips" law may lower your taxes, but it does not change Social Security's definition of earned income.

enTRUST Services, LLC provides person-centered Benefits Counseling to help people understand how work, wages, and tips may impact their benefits and make informed financial decisions.

🌟 Friday Fact: Workers with Job Success (WJS) 💼

Did you know… you can keep your Medicaid coverage even after your income increases?

More income doesn’t have to mean losing healthcare.

Getting started can include:
🔹 Continuing to work and grow your career
🔹 Earning above traditional Medical Assistance for Workers with Disabilities (MAWD) income limits
🔹 Maintaining access to Medicaid and essential supports
🔹 Building confidence to accept raises or more hours

Why It Matters:
✔ Allows you to earn more while keeping Medicaid coverage
✔ Protects access to critical HCBS and waiver services
✔ Reduces fear around career advancement
✔ Supports long-term financial independence

Who May Qualify? A person who:
🔹 Has received MAWD for at least 12 consecutive months
🔹 Is currently working and earning income
🔹 Meets WJS income and resource guidelines
🔹 Needs ongoing Medicaid coverage for health and independence

🎯 Big takeaway: Programs like WJS make it possible to grow your income without sacrificing the benefits you rely on.

enTRUST Services, LLC provides person-centered Benefits Counseling to help individuals understand programs like WJS, navigate income changes, and plan for long-term success.
