It's always important to be able to quantify the impact of our coaching work. Sometimes metrics don't tell the whole story, and we see the bigger picture by adding some qualitative information about coaching success. Happy to share my experience with colleagues from Forbes Coaches Council

Some of the clearest reminders of coaching's value may come from real-life experiences that can't be captured on a spreadsheet but make all the effort worthwhile.

Ken Blanchard first called the "breakfast of champions" many years ago and yet so many still struggle to give direct, timely and actionable feedback as part of their routine standard operating procedures. In the attached article I weigh in with colleagues from Forbes Coaches Council on how to distinguish constructive feedback from harmful feedback

While constructive criticism focuses on behaviors, outcomes and improvement, unhelpful criticism tends to be vague, personal or rooted in frustration.

People who know me have heard me share the story of a wonderful boss of mine who once shared the following feedback after observing me lead a meeting. " You had this look on your face like your shoes were too tight." Huh? Not only did I not know what she meant, but I also was clueless about the look on my face. She went on to explain to me about the importance of leaders having a "game face." a lesson I try to remember to this day. That's one example of the importance of body language and non-verbals in communications. Happy to weigh in on the topic with colleagues from Forbes Coaches Council

Facial expressions, posture, eye contact, gestures and vocal delivery all shape how a message is received and whether it feels credible.

I recently shared my thoughts on the nature of coaching in 2026 with colleagues from ForbesCoaches Council. Whether you are a coach, being coached, have been coached or are considering being coached, I think you'll agree that ADAPTABILITY is a key capability for coaches today more than ever. That applies equally to coaches themselves as well as their ability to help those they are coaching develop or strengthen that capability.

More than mere buzzwords, certain words and phrases offer insight into the client priorities and industry shifts defining coaching in 2026.

So many organizations are dissatisfied with their hashtag efforts and struggle to make them impactful. I would argue that too much time is spent on data collection and diagnosis at the expense of taking the substantive actions that drive succession readiness. Once successors are identified, we need to define and hold people accountable for taking the actions that will ensure successors are ready to step up when the time comes. No small undertaking. I share additional thoughts about succession with colleagues from Forbes Community

The best way is to test potential successors with real, scrappy assignments—not just glamorous ones.

Hardly a day goes by when we don't hear or read something about how to best incorporate AI into our coaching practices,--the trick is to separate the good ideas from the not so good ideas. I weigh in with colleagues from Forbes Coaches Council on some innovative ways to do this

Use cases for AI in coaching include everything from learning about trends and creating engaging content to simplifying decision-making and drafting sharper proposals.

Social media can be a great benefit or cause business owners to spin their wheels. It's important to have a clear implementation strategy and to be intentional about implementation. It might even be worthwhile to outsource managing your social media to a trusted partner. I weigh in on this topic with colleagues from Forbes Coaches Council

The same platforms that drive opportunity can also encourage nonstop scrolling, constant comparison and a gradual erosion of focus; it's key to strike a healthy balance.

One of the better articles I've seen on hashtag lately. In my experience, delegating effectively and often is a true differentiator for people who aspire to senior leadership roles. I especially love this quote: "My advice is simple: When considering any meeting, task, or responsibility, always ask yourself, “Am I the best and cheapest person to get this done?” If the answer is no, delegate the work and give the person you’re handing it to the context needed to succeed." Are you delegating as much as you could be? Do any of the challenges cited resonate, and if so, what are you going to do about it?

All leaders—from new managers to seasoned executives—must delegate tasks to free up time and attention for the big-picture work their more-senior roles demand. But too often leaders find themselves caught in the weeds of ex*****on. This article helps leaders determine which work to keep and whic...
