We started out with 8 children with special needs and 22 teen volunteers, meeting once per month on a Sunday afternoon in Manhattan Beach.

The Friendship Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides socially integrated programs to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to build friendship, independence, and live purposeful lives as active members of their community. At each "Sunday Circle," our group would gather to hang out and socialize while playing games, singing songs and enjoying a variety of interactive e

ntertainments. Soon thereafter, a few of our teens took this concept to their high schools and established school-sanctioned clubs at Mira Costa High School, Palos Verdes High School, and Redondo Union High School. Today, we offer programs 6 days per week, year-round. We provide services for hundreds of children and young adults with special needs and approximately 1,000 student volunteers. Friendship Foundation Clubs are established throughout the South Bay at elementary, middle, and high school levels in public, private, and charter schools with membership constantly growing.

🚨~ New Friendship Club Alert! ~

Join us in welcoming Billy Mitchell Elementary School to the Friendship Club community! 👋🏽😁 .aviators

These aviators are just plane awesome! From friendship bracelets to pizza, charades to conversations, these students do not hesitate to dive right into their inclusive friendship space. Friendships sparked right away thanks to the warm leadership of Vanessa Clark, Community School Site Coordinator, and Ms. Amezcua, SDC teacher.

Volunteer training got competitive in the best way! Students jumped into “Free to Be Me”, a fun charades game to develop social skills, with both teams cheering, high‑fiving, and tying it up 4–4. The excitement in the room was everything. 💙

This spunky group brings magic to the classroom, leaving friends feeling reenergized and ready to take on their next adventure on campus. Keep soarin’, aviators! The sky’s the limit! ✈️

~ Friendship Club of the Month! ~ 🥳

Friendship Club at Point Vicente Elementary School has gone above and beyond for April’s Autism Acceptance Month! Special Education Teacher and club advisor, Ms. McCurdy, is a champion for Friendship Club and inclusion on campus. Here’s how she teaches students to foster inclusion, belonging, and companionship:

“At Point Vicente, we have an amazing Friendship Club where kindergartners and first graders learn the essential social skills they need to thrive. Together, we learn how to identify our complex emotions and discover effective strategies to calm our bodies during challenging moments.”
