The Invisible Barrier✨
When we talk about accessibility, we often think of ramps and wide doorways. But for our family, accessibility often looks like a restroom that actually meets Mila’s needs. ♾ ❤

Mila is now over 35 pounds, and because of her complex medical conditions, she requires help with her daily care. The standard baby changing tables you see in public restrooms simply don’t work for her anymore. She has outgrown them, but she hasn’t outgrown the need for a safe, dignified space for care.

Because universal changing tables are so rare, we are often forced to:
✅ Change her in the cramped back of our car.
✅ Cut our outings short and leave public spaces early.
✅ Or just stay home because the world wasn’t built with her safety in mind. ‍

It shouldn’t be this way. Mila deserves better. Our friends in the disabled community deserve better. Universal changing tables aren’t a luxury; they are a basic requirement for inclusion and dignity. ‍​✨

When we advocate for these spaces, we are advocating for everyone to belong.🫶🏻

this one is for you! The Changing Spaces Campaign mission is: To promote *community inclusion*, access, and equality for individuals with disabilities who cannot safely utilize standard handicapped accessible restrooms.

The second photo here is the scene at all but one of our community centers in Nevada.

Our question is, would you lay on a community center’s locker room floor?

We wouldn’t. Not by choice anyway and yet that is the choice for caregivers and individuals with disabilities who need universal changing tables in public restrooms and want to participate in events and enjoy community resources.

We need our communities to create true inclusion by way of accessible restrooms for ALL! Beyond the current ADA requirements. And what better place to start than our community centers?

Shout out to the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center here in Reno for installing the table in photo 4! Who’s next??

Isn't it interesting to think that hospitals of all places don't have Universal Changing Tables?? We agree with Changing Spaces Tennessee that all hospitals, clinics, and offices should have them for their patients! So awesome to see this installation from Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt !!

Imagine if all stadiums, malls and rest stops had an accessible changing space as this.
Imagine the quality of life your family and loved one would have if you were truly included.

🚨New Table Alert! 🚨 The City of Reno Government installed a new Universal Changing Table at the Adpative Cycling Center!

Did you know? You can rent bikes all summer through the Adaptive Cycling Center! They even have itty bitty bikes for kiddos like ours.
