Happy rainy Wednesday, friends!

Let’s chat about the thyroid this morning.

Thyroid function is COMPLEX and driven by so many outside factors and if you carry a diagnosis of hypothyroidism it’s important to do a deep dive into what’s really going on because it’s never a once size fits all solution.

If you’re frustrated with your thyroid function or current regimen for managing your hypothyroidism, give me a call and we can do a deep dive together and hopefully overhaul your plan to get your thyroid functioning optimally and ultimately get you feeling the best you can!

You can call 715-419-6210 to schedule or schedule online at www.lakelandclinicwi.com

Have a great day!

If you’re anything like me, you thrive with following simple habits.

A lot of patients express difficulty with their food choices at lunch time because they work and the thought of meal prepping sounds daunting.

I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be. On Sundays we throw 3-4 pounds of chicken in the slow cooker and in a few hours its ready for the week. The other key to combatting chicken boredom: FLAVOR. This chicken has Cajun seasoning and lime juice on it and it’s SO good.

I pair this with some of the organic Seeds of Change brown rice and quinoa (tastes way better than it looks and bonus points because Aldi has an identical product for less cost) and either avocado or a veggie and I’m set for lunch. This meal includes tons of protein, healthy fat if you grab an avocado, and some organic whole grains. You basically can’t go wrong here. Maybe add in some roasted broccoli or asparagus for even more fiber and micronutrients. The beautiful part is that all of this can be prepped ahead in very little time which leaves you more time to do all of the other things you love doing on Sundays.

(I highly recommend removing the rice from its packaging before heating to avoid plastic exposure).

Simplicity can be your friend if you let it!

Happy Thursday, friends!

Let’s talk about cholesterol screening! We use lipid panels to help evaluate cardiovascular risk but did you know there are more ways to more accurately assess your true cardiovascular risk? And they also happen to be fairly inexpensive which is also a major win.

Hormone replacement is such an excellent tool that we use in primary care to help women through the peri and post menopause period of life (and even in the fertile years if fertility support is indicated) but what’s equally critical during this time is load bearing exercise.

Walking is an excellent way to keep your metabolism in check but did you know that load bearing exercise (running, jumping, lifting weights, etc) helps to regulate insulin sensitivity, preserves bone density (which drops as estrogen levels drops), and encourages natural testosterone production to help maintain lean muscle mass and support cognitive function?

We utilize estradiol (and other forms of bioidentical hormone replacement) when necessary but it’s SO critical to incorporate load bearing exercise into your daily routine (the earlier in life the better, especially for the sake of your bone density). It doesn’t have to he super heavy, super complex, or take all day. A simple routine can have a massive impact.

So here’s a glimpse of my Saturday morning upper body session:

4 sets of 10:
Dumbbell bench press
Dumbbell rows

3 sets of 10:
Dumbbell shoulder press
Banded pull aparts

3 sets of 10:
Hammer curls
Overhead tricep extensions
Push ups

There are a TON of free programs online to help you follow a routine if you need help organizing the way you lift.

Happy Friday, friends!

Why does Lakeland Clinic choose Redmond Real Salt electrolytes over other options?

Redmond Re-Lyte is not only more affordable than other popular electrolyte replacements but also uses Redmond Real Salt instead of just sodium chloride which contains a wider array of trace elements that are equally important when maintaining hydration.

Redmond Re-Lyte also contains both magnesium malate and magnesium glycinate which promotes relaxation and recovery.

Additionally, unlike many electrolyte replacements, Re-Lyte includes calcium for additional mineral support.

Re-Lyte flavored products use stevia leaf for added sweetness which has a much lower glycemic impact than other sugar alcohols on the market making this a safer option for patients with insulin resistance and diabetes.

There are a ton of flavor options as well as the option for tubs or individual packets, whichever fits your needs best.

We carry some products in the office and can order others at a discounted rate (this is not an affiliate marketing arrangement, Lakeland Clinic just offers these products at slightly less than retail pricing as an added benefit to patients).

Like all good things in life, my garden doesn’t look like much at the beginning but by fall it’ll be ready for a big harvest and I can’t wait.

Gardening is one of the ways that I can accomplish a few goals at the same time:

⭐️ it allows me time to unplug and spend time outside which is so necessary in our fast paced, digital world
⭐️ it allows me to grow nourishing food that contains fewer chemicals and pesticides than most store bought produce
⭐️ I’m able to turn these fruits and veggies into preserved foods that we can eat all winter long so we have a taste of summer even in the middle of the frozen tundra.

Are you a gardener? Share your garden tips and tricks below so we can all learn a few things!

This is such a great shift in the way PCOS is viewed and managed. I’ve seen countless patients over the years who don’t have the ovarian cysts commonly associated with PCOS who still have every metabolic and reproductive feature of the syndrome. PCOS isn’t a disorder specific to the ovaries but rather a body wide metabolic issue with downstream reproductive issues and this new name will hopefully bring about more effective management along with a perspective shift.

Here’s a little sneak peak of our new office space which is coming together really nicely! Looking forward to June 1st!
