Being established with a PT will save you time, money, and pain if you have an injury.

All my patients can text or call me directly which means they can get in faster and start getting out of pain.

Most injuries don't need imaging, medication, or immobilization, but if they do I will send them to the right place.

Totally biased opinion, but you need a PT like you need a primary care doc

Come listen to me talk about falls and balance next Tuesday in Chetek and Thursday in Rice Lake!

After running ~500 fitness classes for older adults, I have some insight on how to improve balance and reduce injuries from falls

September is Falls Prevention Awarenes Month and the Barron County Falls Coalition is celebrating with a variety of activities. Check out the FREE presentations happening in Chetek, Cumberland and Rice Lake next week!

Steps are a great single leg strength exercise.

But you can miss out on a lot of the benefits if you aren't intentional about how you do it.

Details matter.

Weakness doesn't automatically mean pain.

But it does mean lower capacity of that joint.

If you exceed that capacity, that's when pain pops up.

I see this often in the low back, hip, and shoulder.

So what do you do about it?

1. Regularly strength train and address all muscle groups and patterns

2. Gain back full strength after an injury. Don't just stop when pain is gone. (This is common in tendinopathies. People feel better, stop doing exercises, weakness remains)

Light dumbbells and theraband isn't going to cut it when you want to be prepared for an active life.

It isn't just about being strong, it's about having the confidence to do challenging things without being scared of being in pain afterwards

So often people get a diagnosis but still don't have a plan to get out of pain.

2 people can have the same diagnosis on paper and need completely different treatment plans.

Severity and irritability are 2 things that I assess on the first day and continue to assess every week. They dictate which exercises, how many, how frequent, and what lifestyle changes need to be made.

You can decrease injuries by doing 2 things

1. Do less
2. Build more capacity

Increasing your body's capacity includes a lot of different things.
- Adequate sleep
- A consistent and progressive exercise program
- Nutrition
- Stress

We'll talk more about how to increase capacity in the next couple posts.

If you just want to do less to prevent injuries, this isn't the place for you.

If you want to increase your capacity to get hurt less, I can help

Housing sheep in our old dairy barn is great - they're safe and secure, the thick stone walls block wind. It keeps cool-ish in the summer. But. No equipment fits through the doors. Well, it's not like we have much equipment anyway, but even if we did, the barn wasn't built to accommodate a front-end loader. And this is why farmer Stephen sees Brett at Leverage Physical Therapy on a regular basis.

The traditional model of seeing a PT for a few weeks to solve a specific problem and being discharged with no follow up was never the best way. It just fit the insurance model.

I consider all of my patients, patients for life so that we have open communication to handle problems that come up or a plan to minimize them.

If you want a lifelong PT to not only get you out of pain but keep you active and healthy, reach out to schedule an appointment.

The first PT visit is when we get all the background information and figure out what is going on.

All the information gathered then starts to dictate the plan going forward.

We have 60 minutes to talk, move, and begin treatment which is rare in healthcare.
