Rehab doesn't stop at baseline because that version of you got hurt in the first place.

By the time rehab is done, you should be better than you were before injury. That's how you stop the pain from coming right back.

Often times there's weakness, instability, or mobility restrictions long before pain comes on. Identifying and addressing those deficits helps to solve the problem for the long term, not just calm down the pain temporarily.

Of course I look at the knee when someone has knee pain. But it's often times part of a bigger picture.

4 things to be assessed:
1. Ankle mobility
2. Hip strength
3. Movement patterns
4. Training volume

Joints need movement to get their nutrition. The hyaline cartilage on the ends of bones doesn't have blood flow like muscles. It relies on movement to get its nutrition.

Rotator cuff pain is common and affects a lot of different movements.

Calming down the pain is great but you also need to build strength and capacity in those muscles.

Everyone shoulder overhead press but sometimes pain or stiffness can prevent that.

The landmine press is a good variation to encourage good mechanics of the shoulder and to limit the range of motion when needed.

It allows people to keep their shoulders strong while we work on range of motion and pain.

Single arm and unstable exercises can expose weakness and instability.

I've seen many people who can shoulder press or bench press a lot of weight but still have pain and lack stability.

Guessing and hoping it works isn't a plan.

With a thorough assessment we can see what areas are painful, what muscles are stiff or hyper mobile, and what muscles are weak.

Then we can develop a plan to calm down the pain and address those deficits.
