This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind every caregiver, parent, and family member: you matter too.

Caring for a child with autism is one of the most demanding and most beautiful things you can do. But you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Give yourself permission to rest. To ask for help. To not have it all figured out.

You taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your child.

A little reminder for every caregiver, parent, and family member showing up for their child every single day. 💜

A better morning. A new word. Trying a new food. Don’t forget to take time to celebrate the small milestones along the way.

(Screenshot this. Save it. Come back to it on the hard days to remind yourself you are doing your best, and that is enough.)

Finding the right gift for a child with autism means thinking beyond just a “fun” toy. You want something that is enjoyable, accommodates their sensory needs, and won’t overwhelm them.

A few of our BCBAs put together a list of sensory-friendly favorites that kids and teens with autism love.

Here are a few of our picks:

🌱 Sensory pea pod — perfect for kids who love a cozy retreat

🌱 Color-changing touch board — great for visual and tactile exploration

🌱 Kinetic sand — endlessly satisfying and calming

🌱 Brainteaser toy — for kids who love a hands-on challenge

🌱 Sensory liquid floor tiles — movement, color, and sensory input all in one

Whether you’re buying a gift for their birthday, a holiday, or a family outing, all of these are great options to select from! 🎁

Every family’s journey with autism looks different.

This is one story shared anonymously by an AnswersNow caregiver. And it’s one of many showing what it feels like to navigate life, love, and learning alongside your child. 💙

“Autism is a way of being. It’s not something you get over. It’s part of the tapestry of who you are.”

Beautiful words to live by.

Autistic individuals don’t need to “get over” autism. They deserve the space and support to live unapologetically as themselves — fully, confidently, and on their own terms.

Because the tapestry of who they are? It’s already beautiful. 💜

Autism represents a spectrum of strengths, perspectives, personalities, and possibilities. 💙

In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, we asked a few of our clinicians: what word comes to mind when you think of autism?

Their answers reflect the joy, brilliance, and individuality they see every day in the children and families we support.

What word comes to mind for you? ⬇️

✨ Say it louder for the people in the back.

“I am different, not less. The world needs all kinds of minds.” — Dr. Temple Grandin

Dr. Temple Grandin is one of the most celebrated voices in the autism community. She is a scientist, author, and advocate who was diagnosed with autism as a child and went on to become one of the world’s leading scientists and autism advocates.

Her story is a powerful reminder that autism doesn’t make anyone less. Every child on the spectrum is a complete, full person with their own gifts, perspectives, and potential just waiting to be unlocked.

Autism touches more lives than most people realize.

Did you know that

→ 1 in 31 children in the US are diagnosed with autism (CDC data, 2025)

→ Approximately 5.4 million adults in the US live with autism (NIH publication, 2022)

→ Autism diagnoses have increased 300% over the past 20 years (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health study, 2025)

Early intervention and diagnosis is everything. This Autism Acceptance Month, we’re proud to be part of a community that shows up for families every step of the way.
