Traveling can sometimes feel like a balancing act. 🙋♀️
On one hand, you want to maintain habits that help you feel your best. On the other, you want to relax, enjoy yourself, and make memories without worrying about doing everything "perfectly." 🙂
Over the years, I've learned that I don't need to take every habit with me when I travel. Instead, I focus on a few things that make the biggest difference in how I feel.
Here are my travel non-negotiables:
1️⃣ Stay hydrated.
Travel days can be dehydrating, especially when flying. I start my day with water and keep a water bottle with me whenever possible. It's a simple habit that helps my energy, digestion, and overall wellbeing.
2️⃣ Move every day.
I don't worry about finding a gym when I'm on vacation. Instead, I build movement into the trip. Walking through a new city, hiking a trail, exploring a beach, or simply stretching in the morning all count.
3️⃣ Focus on progress, not perfection, with food.
One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying local foods and enjoying meals with the people I'm with. Rather than trying to eat exactly like I do at home, I focus on protein, vegetables when available, and paying attention to how my body feels.
4️⃣ Protect my sleep.
Sleep is the habit that impacts everything else. When I don't sleep well, I notice it in my energy, mood, cravings, and stress levels. I do my best to keep a reasonable bedtime and create a comfortable sleep environment, even when I'm away from home.
Travel is meant to be enjoyed.
For me, the goal isn't to follow every routine perfectly. It's to come home feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to jump back into everyday life.
