The Holistic Hive

The Holistic Hive Healing happens in communities of care, where connection, reciprocity, and collective support become acts of radical self-compassion.

We create inclusive spaces rooted in dignity, belonging, mutual respect, and caring for ourselves and each other.

🐝 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: The Parents' Place of Maryland

Sometimes families don’t need another appointment. They need someone who understands the system and can help them figure out what comes next.

This week, we’re highlighting The Parents’ Place of Maryland (PPMD), a statewide organization helping families of children and young adults with disabilities, special health care needs, and behavioral health needs.

PPMD has been supporting Maryland families since 1990 and serves as Maryland’s Parent Training and Information Center and Family-to-Family Health Information Center.

Families can connect with PPMD for:
🍯 One-on-one family peer support
🍯 Help understanding and navigating special education
🍯 Information about IEPs, 504 plans, services, and family rights
🍯 Health care and behavioral health resources
🍯 Trainings for parents and professionals
🍯 Connections and referrals to additional community resources

One of the things we especially love about their model is families helping families. Much of their work is grounded in the experience of parents who have navigated these systems themselves and can help other families become informed, confident advocates for their children.

And their Parent Training and Information Center services are available to Maryland families of children and youth with disabilities or special needs from birth through age 26 at no cost.

Because finding the right support shouldn’t require families to already know how every system works.

🐝 Healing happens in community.

Learn more about The Parents’ Place of Maryland and explore their resources at PPMD.org.

Our mission is to empower families as advocates and partners in improving education and health outcomes for ALL children with disabilities, special healthcare needs and those impacted by behavioral health challenges.

The Hive is growing. 🐝💛

Have you followed Honeybee Collective yet?

The Honeybee Collective was created to expand the work of The Holistic Hive beyond the therapy room and into the community. Through outreach, youth and family programs, community resources, everyday essentials, education, wellness initiatives, and more, we’re creating more ways for individuals and families to feel supported, connected, and cared for.

It’s another way we’re putting our belief that healing belongs to everyone into action. 💛

🐝 Follow to see what’s happening in the community, learn about upcoming programs and events, and find ways to get involved.

There are some things no one should have to go without. 💛

Soap. Toothpaste. Period products. Diapers. Hair care. The everyday things that help us care for ourselves and our families with dignity.

That’s why we created The Queen’s Cabinet. 👑🐝

The Queen’s Cabinet is our community care essentials program, created to make sure members of our hive have access to the basics they need—because sometimes care looks like a listening ear, and sometimes it looks like a fresh pack of diapers, a bottle of shampoo, or having what you need to get through your period.

Now, we need our community to help us fill the Cabinet. 🐝💛

Whether you purchase one item from our wishlist, drop off a few essentials, ship a donation, or get your business involved, every contribution helps us care for someone in our community.

Help us stock the shelves so that when someone needs a little extra support, the hive is ready.

🐝 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Droppin' The Beat 🥁🎧

This week, we’re shining our Community Spotlight on Droppin’ The Beat, a Salisbury nonprofit giving kids and adults opportunities to explore music, rhythm, creativity, and confidence.

From drum kits and bucket drumming to DJ skills and studio experiences, Droppin’ The Beat creates space for people to learn something new, take creative risks, find their rhythm, and have a whole lot of fun doing it.

And obviously, this one caught our attention.

At the Honeybee Collective, HoneyBeat starts with something we sometimes forget: we are rhythmic creatures.

Before we knew language, before we knew a song, we knew the rhythm of a heartbeat.

We use music to sing ourselves home. To move when we’ve been stuck. To remember people and places and versions of ourselves. A song can take us somewhere before our brain has even figured out where we’re going.

And then there’s jamming — that thing that happens when people making music together stop feeling like separate people trying to keep time and suddenly find one another. Everyone is listening, responding, anticipating, adjusting. You’re not just playing beside each other anymore. You’re in it together.

There’s something about that kind of synchrony that sticks with us.

That’s what we love about Droppin’ The Beat. They’re creating opportunities for kids and adults to make noise, learn something new, find their rhythm, build confidence, and experience what can happen when we make something together.

Because sometimes community starts with something as simple as:
You hear the beat.
I hear the beat.
And then we find it together. 🥁🐝

So this week, go show some love to Droppin’ The Beat, follow what they’re doing here on the Shore, and keep an eye out for their upcoming programs.

We’re pretty sure our bees and their beats have a whole lot in common. 💛

Together for the Collective Good.

Care is knowing you don’t have to navigate life alone. 💛

It’s knowing there’s a place where you’re supported, welcomed, and encouraged to show up as you are — a place to connect, have a little fun, and truly belong.

That’s what community care looks like to us: a village that shows up, makes room, and reminds you that you’re part of something bigger.

Because every bee deserves a hive. 🐝

You know what kids are really good at?

Finding each other.

The dinosaur kid finds the dinosaur kid. The kid who draws during lunch finds the kid who makes tiny things out of paper. Somebody starts digging a hole at recess and suddenly there’s a whole excavation crew with jobs, rules, and a surprisingly complicated social structure.

Or they decide to build an entire beehive under a table in our office, complete with a decorating strategy, because apparently community development also requires interior design. 😂🐝

Kids are building communities all the time.

They’re creating little worlds with their own rules, rituals, relationships, ideas, and ways of belonging. And if we get curious enough to really watch them, they might have something to teach us about connection, community, and what it means to make room for one another.

Our newest blog looks at kids, community, and Standpoint Theory and invites us grown-ups to peek into their world for a minute.

There’s a whole lot happening down there under the table.

Come take a look.

What if children already know more than we give them credit for? What if children already know more than we give them credit for? 🌿

New on the blog: an invitation to privilege childhood as its own way of knowing — honoring play, movement, imagination, sensory experience, and even refusal as meaningful information. When we build connection before teaching, children reveal what their bodies know, what they need, and how they create communities and realities of their own.
