A Man Pulled a Gun on Lou Williams at a Red Light on Christmas Eve. Williams Rolled Down His Window. The Man Said He Just Got Out of Jail and Was Starving. Lou Bought Him McDonald's. Three Cheeseburgers. He Didn't Sit Down and Eat With Him Though

Christmas Eve. 2011. Philadelphia.

Lou Williams was driving through Manayunk after a haircut when a man with a gun tapped his window.

Most NBA players lock the door and drive away.

Lou rolled the window down.

The man recognized him. Relaxed a little. Then explained himself.

"I've just got out of jail, and the only thing I got is a bus ticket, bruh! I'm out here starving."

Lou looked at him. Looked at the McDonald's down the block. Made his offer.

"There's a McDonald's right there… I'll buy you whatever you need."

He gave him his word. The man ran to McDonald's. Lou called his security to meet him there. Then did something he still can't fully explain.

"The only crazy thing I did is that when he ran to the McDonald's. I didn't drive away, and I don't know why. I guess I wanted to keep my word, so I walked to the register with him and ordered the food. But hell no, I didn't sit down and eat with him."

The man ordered everything he could.

"He order a gang of s—t, by the way, three cheeseburgers, racking up for the week."

Lou Williams grew up in Memphis. Declared for the draft out of high school. Played four minutes a game his rookie year. He understood what being hungry actually looked like. Not hungry for success. Actually hungry.

He kept his word to a man with a gun on Christmas Eve.
