The Emergency Medical Responder students in a class hosted at the Plainfield Fire Department received a visit and landing zone set-up and safety instruction from Life Link III on the last night of class.

SURVIVOR STORY: HEATHER RUPLINGER 💙

During , it's important to remember why we do what we do. This story does just that.

Not even a year ago on July 1, 2025, one of our very own Life Link III employees, Heather Ruplinger, experienced one of the worst days of her life. After fainting at the service desk during a routine oil change and being rushed by ambulance to District One Hospital in Faribault, Doctors discovered multiple large blood clots in both of Heather’s lungs, along with additional clots in her left leg. As the clots worsened, they began obstructing blood flow through her heart, eventually causing right-sided heart failure. Heather was running out of time.

Heather was then transported by helicopter to Abbott Northwestern Hospital. As she was being brought into the emergency department, she felt a sternum rub and heard someone say, “Heather, stay with us!” Heather coded shortly after and required intubation and defibrillation.

Thirty-six hours later, Heather woke up to learn she had been placed on ECMO and that doctors were preparing to extubate her. “I was alive,” she said.

Thank you for the work you do and the teamwork it takes to care for patients when it matters most!
