In this new series, Dr. Sanders breaks down the evolution of facelift surgery and explains how techniques have changed over the years to create more natural, longer-lasting results.

The earliest facelifts focused primarily on tightening the skin, which often led to a stretched appearance. The next major advancement was the SMAS facelift, which addressed a deeper support layer beneath the skin called the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS). By repositioning this layer rather than simply pulling the skin tighter, surgeons were able to achieve more natural-looking rejuvenation that stood the test of time.
