Allyson Felix has been a pivotal advocate for maternity protections for female athletes. In 2019, she publicly criticized Nike for proposing a 70% pay cut during her pregnancy and for not offering maternity protections.
This advocacy led Nike to revise its maternity policy, extending protections to 18 months.
Beyond influencing corporate policies, Felix launched her own footwear company, Saysh, in 2021. Saysh introduced a unique maternity return policy, allowing customers to exchange shoes if their foot size changes during pregnancy.
Additionally, Felix has collaborated with organizations like Athleta and the Women’s Sports Foundation to provide childcare grants for mothers competing in events such as the Tokyo Olympics.
Through these initiatives, Felix has significantly contributed to enhancing maternity protections and support for female athletes.
