The Spartanburg Area Transportation Study (SPATS) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is updating its 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) which guides transportation investments across the region over the next 25 years. PAL: Play Advocate Live Well for safe spaces for pedestrians and cyclists as part of our mission to create opportunities for active living and healthy eating for everyone, centered around Spartanburg County.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend a public information session on the plan and schedule of trail improvements at Duncan Park. This event is happening on September 9th at the C.C. Woodson Community Center (210 Bomar Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29306) beginning at 5:30pm. Plan highlights include:
👟
Surfacing the existing gravel trail which hugs the tree line behind Veteran’s Point Memorial Park;
🚲
Installing a boardwalk off North Park Drive which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to avoid the Rivermont Drive intersection;
🛑
Adding two (2) three-way stop signs at the intersection of Parkview Drive, Carolyn Drive, and West Park Drive, as well as the South Park Drive and Parkview Drive intersection; and,
🚜
Expanding offroad sections of the trail, extending the perimeter of the Duncan Park Lake trail.

A panel of representatives from PAL and the City of Spartanburg will present information and answer questions from attendees. Email [email protected] for more information.

This Saturday! Join PAL, Hub City Gym, and instructor Ellen King for a Sunrise Tai Chi class at the Balmer Foundation Watershed Amphitheater on the Mary Black Rail Trail.

As the sun rises over the trail, participants will be guided through the slow, intentional movements of Tai Chi - a gentle practice that combines movement and mindful breathing to improve balance, flexibility, coordination, focus, and overall well-being.

If you’ve ever wanted to try Tai Chi, this is the perfect opportunity. The class is beginner-friendly, and no experience is necessary.

Experience the trail at one of its quietest and most beautiful times of day while starting your morning with movement, fresh air, and good company.

The Fresh Stops program is made possible through a generous grant from First Presbyterian Church - Spartanburg, and the PAL Food Hub is proud to partner with the City of Spartanburg and First Steps to bring it to four (4) locations in Spartanburg! Members of the community are invited to pick up fresh, local food from our refrigerated coolers at the Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center and C.C. Woodson Community Center, and families of students at The Franklin School and Highland Early Learning Center may pick up from those locations, as well. All items are free and new deliveries arrive on Wednesdays!

Last year more than 5,200 pounds of apples, oranges, peaches, and milk pints were distributed.
