Meet our very own unicorn, Jessamyn Rice, TRI's Director of Development & Equine Operations! 🐴

Six years into her TRI journey, Jess brings an incredible combination of heart, creativity, determination, and a whole lot of hustle to our team.

Jess wears more hats than we can count. She oversees our equine operations and supervises our Equine Manager, Makayla, who coordinates day-to-day care of our horses and facilities. Jess also leads fundraising, grant writing, marketing, and all of TRI's donor events, including our biggest night of the year, Stetsons & Sterling. This year's gala officially sold out before individual tickets even went on sale, and while the big night is still ahead, Jess and the committee have already poured countless hours of creativity, planning, and passion into making it unforgettable.

A PATH Intl. CTRI and ESMHL, Jess also loves being hands-on in our programs, especially our mental health programs like WISH for veterans and first responders and Taking the Reins for teens and adults. Seeing the impact of these programs firsthand and building relationships with the people who participate is one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

But perhaps Jess's biggest superpower is sharing TRI's mission with just about anyone who will listen. Whether she's talking to a potential donor, meeting a community partner, or giving one of her famously unforgettable tours, Jess has a way of making people understand not just what we do, but why it matters. No one leaves a Jess tour without learning something, laughing at least once, and seeing TRI a little differently.

From caring for our herd and creating unforgettable events to connecting people with our mission, Jess brings passion to every corner of TRI. After six years, there's not a part of TRI she hasn't left her mark on, and we're incredibly lucky to have her on our team.

Help us give a well-deserved pat on the back to Jess! 💛 TRI is so lucky to have her, and we're even luckier that she keeps saying yes to all those hats.

We have some bittersweet news to share with our TRI family. On August 31st, our very special therapy horse Cooper will officially retire from his work at TRI and return home to his mom, Belinda, to enjoy a very well-earned retirement.

Since joining TRI in fall 2024, Cooper has touched the lives of so many participants through therapeutic riding and equine-assisted therapy. Around the barn, he quickly earned his reputation as our “gentleman" his kind, patient, and steady nature helping countless people feel safe, confident, and successful.

At 29 years young, Cooper has more than earned the opportunity to trade lesson plans for leisurely days in the pasture with his buddies. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has given to TRI and the people he has served.

A special thank you to Belinda for entrusting Cooper to our care and allowing him to share his extraordinary gifts with our TRI community. ❤️

While we will certainly miss him, we couldn’t be happier for Cooper as he begins this next chapter.

Happy retirement, Cooper. You’ve earned every minute of it! 🐴❤️

Recently, our Equine Manager, Makayla Barton, and Volunteer Director, Stephanie Slepicka, hosted our first Horse Leader Development Clinic, focused on giving our Horse Leaders the tools and skills they need to build stronger connections with our equine partners and advocate for them throughout their lessons together.

Our horses are one of the most important parts of what we do here at TRI. They play an incredible role in creating meaningful experiences for our participants, which makes it so important that our Horse Leaders understand how to listen to, communicate with, and support them.

On July 25th 6 of our Horse Leaders spent hands-on time developing their equine communication and emotional reading skills, with a focus on learning how to clearly and effectively communicate with a horse from up to 10–12 feet away. They practiced reading their horses body language, recognizing emotional states, and using their own body language and positioning to communicate more clearly.

This clinic was about more than just learning new techniques, it was about developing a deeper understanding of our equine partners and giving our Horse Leaders the confidence to recognize when a horse may be communicating a need, discomfort, or concern and advocate for them throughout lessons.

We are so proud of our Horse Leaders for their willingness to learn, practice, and continue growing their horsemanship skills. We look forward to continuing these clinics and building an even stronger team of horse and human partners!

Six Horse Leaders + New skills + Stronger communication = Greater connection. ✨🐎🤍

Two frogs, one ride. 🐴🐸

Joey had a very important job. Her frog friends needed to travel from one side of the arena to the other, and she offered to give them a ride.

The catch? She had to sit tall, hold her head up, and stay completely still so her passengers wouldn't tumble off. With frogs perched on her shoulders and head, Joey guided Poncho across the arena with focus and care, delivering each one safely back to their home at the toy chest. 💛

She didn't just take great care of her frog friends. She worked on her posture, her body awareness, and her connection with Poncho, all at the same time.

That's a TRIumph. 🌿

Have a moment like Joey's that you'd love to share? We'd love to hear it. Submit your TRIumph story: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSchqjIT57IXKp24mngvqEJRJO6rEDVbgFyyEeVRD2SdPuXKxA/viewform
