ICEMS Session Highlight of the Week✨

Our next highlight: The Power of Moulage: Transforming Learner Engagement and Realism

What learners see when they arrive at a scene can change everything that happens next. In this hands-on session, participants will explore how practical, inexpensive moulage techniques can increase simulation realism and learner engagement without letting the moulage become the focus.

Participants will experience:
✨ Learn the why behind moulage and how to use it intentionally.
🩸 Explore practical techniques for bruising, abrasions, wounds, bleeding, and more.
🚑 Discover how environmental moulage can add realism to EMS scenarios.
🎨 Get hands-on in the Moulage Playground using simple, affordable materials.

Come ready to experiment, get a little messy, and leave with techniques you can use in your next simulation!

📅 September 22, 2026

From an idea to collaboration 🚑📊 What began with Dr. Bruce Moeller’s vision, has grown into a collaborative effort exploring how advanced forecasting methods can help us better anticipate statewide emergency medical events. Together with Dr. Michael Lozano, this work brings innovative approaches in data, modeling, and emergency medicine to a challenge with real-world implications for EMS and patient care.

This work demonstrates the power of working with USF’s School of Aging Studies, Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity & Computing, Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, and School of Information to better understand and forecast emergency medical events—and ultimately strengthen EMS systems and patient care across Florida.
