Labor Day is about recognizing the people whose work keeps our communities moving.

For people with IDD and autism, Direct Support Professionals are an essential part of that community.

DSPs provide support that helps people live, work, connect, participate, and thrive — from everyday routines to major milestones and everything in between.

Today, we celebrate their work. Every day, we advocate for the support and investment this essential workforce deserves.

Happy Labor Day — and thank you, DSPs, for all that you do. 🧡

At the end of July, and along with other organizations, members of The Arc's IDD-Autism Alliance sent a letter to Governor Maura Healey urging her to sign on to a nationwide statement reaffirming the Commonwealth's commitment to home-and-community based services (HCBS) in light of the concerning DOJ Olmstead memo.

We are proud to share that Governor Healey did sign this statement, along with 17 other states. You can see the letter here:http://thearcofmass.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/FINAL-Governors-Letter-on-Olmstead-9.2026-.pdf

Thank you to Governor Maura Healey for her leadership on this issue, and to Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong, Disability Policy Consortium, Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC), Association for Autism and Neurodiversity, Massachusetts Advocates for Children, LEND Boston, MassFamilies, Insurance Resource Center for Autism and Behavioral Health, and AFAM - Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts for signing on.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is currently developing policies regarding the use of cameras in the common areas of group homes.

To ensure these policies reflect the needs and perspectives of those they affect most, DDS and The Arc of Massachusetts are collaborating to host a virtual Town Hall specifically for families.

This session is an opportunity for you to share your feedback, voice your concerns, and ask questions directly to DDS leadership. Your input is vital to this process.

To reach a wide audience, we are hosting two identical Zoom sessions:

- Tuesday, September 15, 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
- Tuesday, September 15, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Register for these sessions at https://thearcofmass.org/webinars
