Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists

In 1947, the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists (WSA) was chartered by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) as its fourteenth (14th) Component State Society. From an initial handful of members, currently WSA has 540+ Active members, plus a dozen Scientist & 150+ Resident members from the two training centers at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and UW-Madison. Created to provide in

-state CME for anesthesiologists, today the WSA also serves patients, the general public and their elected representatives as the resource on standards of ethical anesthesia care.

Congratulations to WSA’s 2026 Distinguished Service Award Recipient, Dr. Michael Bottcher!

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual who has provided outstanding service to the Society and to the practice of anesthesiology. As a Past President of WSA, Dr. Bottcher has certainly exemplified that commitment, and continues to generously give his time, energy, and expertise to support the Society and its members.

We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Bottcher’s many contributions to WSA and the profession, and we can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor.

Dr. Bevil is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She practices regional anesthesiology and serves the department as the Vice Chair of Education.

Dr. Katherine Keech is an associate professor in the department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Iowa where she works clinically in the Stead Family Children’s Hospital as a pediatric anesthesiologist. In her non-clinical endeavors, she is an associate program director for both the anesthesiology residency program and for the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program as well as the director of the 4 week advanced elective in anesthesia for medical students. She resides just outside of Iowa City with her husband and 4 children.

Dr. Bradley Silva is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician at the University of Chicago. Previously, Dr. Silva was in private practice focusing exclusively in pain medicine. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Silva was a practicing attorney in Chicago.

Dr. Sheaba Varghese is a double board-certified Anesthesiologist and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia specialist who currently serves as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist in the Cardiac Division at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and is a Clinical Assistant Professor through University of Cincinnati. She completed her residency in Chicago followed by specialized fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia at Nemours and then Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia in Cincinnati. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Varghese’s extends beyond the borders of the Unites States as a dedicated international educator actively participating in global medical missions working to advance anesthesia safety and reach underserved areas.

Olga Leavitt obtained her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her medical degree with from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. She completed anesthesiology residency training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Hospital of Chicago. She is an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology with a clinical interest in pediatric neuroanesthesiology.
