The supplement industry has convinced people that if they just find the right combination of pills, powders, tinctures, gummies, capsules, drops, and mystery Amazon products, they’ll finally feel better.

Meanwhile, some of the sickest people I meet are taking 20+ supplements and have absolutely no idea why they’re taking half of them.

More isn’t what gets you better. More targeted is what does.

Before you buy another supplement, ask yourself:

—> What problem am I actually trying to solve?
—> Do I know why this supplement is supposed to help?
—> Is it addressing the pattern behind my symptoms or am I just hoping for the best?

Your body isn’t a guessing game, and sometimes the next step isn’t another supplement.

Sometimes the next step is understanding the pattern behind your symptoms.

That’s exactly what we help our patients do every day.

Comment ME and I’ll show you how.

The phrase “it is just perimenopause” is the second dismissal, right after “your labs are normal,” and both are covert ways of telling you to stop asking questions they don’t know how to find the answers to.

Your body did not break in your forties. Your body has been trying to tell you something for a decade, and perimenopause is just the volume turning up.

The anxiety that made you cancel dinner again last Tuesday, the 3 a.m. wake ups you no longer bother to tell your husband about, the way your afternoon wall now starts at 1 p.m. instead of 3, the supplements from four different providers stacked on your bathroom counter that are not moving any of it, all of those things are the same pattern being read as five separate mysteriously unsolvable issues.

In our office we use muscle testing to assess every major organ at once, find the ones under stress, and then test for what is actually driving the dysfunction underneath, usually an immune challenge, a food sensitivity, a chemical, or a heavy metal that your standard labs would never find.

Then we create a custom protocol to support the organs that actually need support rather than making you buy supplements you don’t need.

If you’re ready to get some real answers, comment PATTERNS and I will send you what that assessment actually looks like on a case like yours.

Healing is not out of reach. You just need someone who knows where to look.

Before somebody gets mad at me in the comments, no, I’m not saying Iowa is toxic. I live here. I love it here. What I am saying is that your body doesn’t live in a vacuum. It lives in the real world, and the real world comes with things like agricultural runoff, pesticides, plastics, processed food, chronic stress, poor sleep, chemical exposures, and a pace of life that asks more from our bodies than ever before.

Most people don’t think much about any of that when they feel good. But when you’ve spent years exhausted, bloated, inflamed, foggy, anxious, or just feeling like a version of yourself that you barely recognize anymore, you start paying attention. You start asking different questions. Because eventually, “everything looks normal” stops being reassuring when you still feel awful.

I understand that frustration because I lived it. It’s also one of the reasons I’ve become so obsessed with pattern recognition. Not diagnoses. Not labels. Patterns.

The women who end up in our office are rarely making things up. They’re rarely lazy. They’re rarely overreacting. More often, they’re carrying a burden their body has been compensating for far longer than anyone realizes. And at some point, the compensation stops working.

That’s why I spend a lot less time asking, “What’s wrong with this person?” and a lot more time asking, “What pattern am I seeing?”

Because symptoms are clues. They’re your body’s way of waving a flag and trying to get your attention. And when you stop looking at symptoms as isolated problems and start looking at the bigger pattern, things often start making a lot more sense.

If you’ve ever been told you’re fine while feeling anything but fine, you’re exactly who I make this content for. Follow along.

Most people don’t realize how many women I talk to who are genuinely trying to make healthier choices… and still feel like they’re losing the game.

They are trying to eat cleaner, move their bodies, reduce toxins, drink more water.

Cool. From where exactly? 😂

Living in Iowa sometimes feels like choosing between contaminants in tap water or microplastics in bottled water and calling it “wellness.”

A lot of people are exhausted from feeling like modern health has turned into a full-time detective job. You start trying to make one better choice and next thing you know you’re researching water filtration systems at 11 pm.

This is also why I get frustrated when health conversations get overly simplistic. Human health doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Your body is constantly interacting with stress, food quality, sleep, environmental exposures, hormones, nervous system function, digestion, and about a hundred other variables all at the same time.

You don’t need to live in fear and perfection is not the goal, but pretending these things don’t matter at all also isn’t helpful.

Sometimes the goal is just reducing the overall load where you can… without spiraling and making yourself miserable in the process.

Modern wellness is weird and we’re all out here doing our best. 😅

Follow Optimum Wellness Solutions for more real-world health conversations that don’t require you to be perfect to make progress.

Your body is not a fragile little glass ornament that’s just one missed workout away from collapse.

It was designed to handle occasional stressors. Including birthday cake, late nights, vacation food and even the “non-organic strawberries” someone on TikTok tried to scare you about.

What it struggles with more than any of those things is the constant pressure so many women are living under every single day:
🤍Trying to be perfect.
🤍Trying to “earn” health.
🤍Trying to control every ingredient, every symptom, every ounce of their body >>while silently panicking that they’re failing.

Nobody online is getting rich telling you this, but here it is anyway.

Your body is not failing you. Wellness culture is failing you.

There’s a massive difference between “this person needs 14 supplements and a cold plunge” and “this person needs eight hours of sleep and to stop white-knuckling every meal.”

The women I work with aren’t struggling because they bought conventional produce. They’re struggling because they’ve been running on empty for years while simultaneously trying to be perfect at health.

Chronic stress. Poor sleep. Under-eating. Nervous system dysregulation. That’s the stuff that quietly unravels everything — not the birthday cake.

Swipe through if you need someone to say this to you today. And then maybe go take a nap.

I’m Amy — functional medicine and clinical nutrition practitioner in West Des Moines. I help women connect the dots between their symptoms when “everything looks normal” but nothing feels right.

Somewhere along the way, wellness culture convinced people that “healthy” means perfection.

➡️Perfect ingredients.
➡️Perfect routines.
➡️Perfect discipline.
➡️Perfect morning sunlight while grounding barefoot and drinking chlorophyll out of a mason jar.

Meanwhile, half the women I see are exhausted, under-eating protein, running on caffeine, sleeping 5 hours a night, stressed out of their minds… and feeling guilty because they bought conventional strawberries for the kids.

So here’s the advice I’d lovingly shake you by the shoulders and tell you:

☑️Your body will survive a fast food meal.
☑️It will survive non-organic produce.
☑️It will survive seed oils at a birthday party.
☑️It will survive missing a workout.

What it does not survive well is chronic stress, perfectionism, panic, shame, and constantly feeling like you are failing at health.

A nervous system that feels safe will do more for your health than obsessing over every ingredient label ever will.

Most people do not need more wellness fear, what they need is more stability, consistency, nourishment, sleep, sunlight, muscle, minerals, laughter, and a life that actually feels livable.

That’s the stuff nobody online gets rich screaming about, but it’s exactly what we talk about here.
