Distracted eating may be affecting your digestion more than you realize.

When we eat while scrolling, working, driving, or watching TV, we often eat too quickly and don't chew our food thoroughly. This can interfere with the body's natural digestive process and make it easier to overeat before the brain receives signals that we're full.

Digestion begins before the first bite. Seeing, smelling, and savoring food helps stimulate digestive enzymes and prepares the digestive tract for efficient nutrient absorption.

Try eating your next meal without distractions. Slow down, chew thoroughly, and pay attention to the flavors, textures, and aromas of your food.

Being present at mealtime is one of the simplest ways to support better digestion and overall health.

Good health starts with real food. Our daily nutrition should focus on fresh, locally grown, organic whole foods — especially fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds — along with small portions of high-quality animal protein like free-range or grass-fed meats.

Choosing natural, minimally processed foods can help reduce exposure to pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and GMOs while supporting a healthier gut microbiome. Our bodies thrive best on the kinds of foods we were naturally designed to eat.

Many of the grains we eat today are very different from the grains our ancestors consumed. Through modern farming practices and genetic modification, modern grains have been altered to maximize crop yields and efficiency — but these changes are relatively new in human history.

Because our digestive systems and gut microbiome evolved alongside natural foods over many generations, modern grains can be harder for the body to process, even contributing to digestive inflammation.

Chronic inflammation in the digestive tract can cause not only poor absorption of nutrients but also damage the gut lining, leading to increased intestinal permeability — often called “leaky gut syndrome.” This may allow partially digested food particles to enter the bloodstream, triggering immune reactions.

Over time, the immune system can mistakenly attack the body’s own tissues, potentially contributing to autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and more.

Gut health matters far beyond digestion — it plays a major role in immune health and overall wellness.

Many modern diets are heavy in processed grains and omega-6-rich foods, which can contribute to increased inflammatory activity in the body when consumed in excess and without balance. Because we often eat the same foods repeatedly, this inflammation can become chronic — placing constant stress on the body’s healing systems.

Over time, this internal stress has been associated with conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, autoimmune disorders, and many other chronic diseases.

Food is more than calories. Choosing whole, nutrient-dense foods and creating balance in the diet can support long-term health and recovery.

Omega-6 fatty acids are essential for health… but balance matters.

Historically, humans consumed omega-6 and omega-3 fats in a ratio closer to 3:1. Today’s highly processed Western diet can push that ratio to 20:1 or higher — heavily favoring omega-6s. This imbalance may increase inflammation while reducing the powerful anti-inflammatory and heart-protective benefits of omega-3s.

One of the best ways to restore balance is to cut back on processed foods rich in omega-6 oils and increase omega-3 rich foods like fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts.

Small dietary changes can make a big difference in lowering inflammation and supporting long-term health.

Omega-6 fatty acids are essential fats, but too much of them — especially from processed and fried foods — can promote chronic inflammation in the body.

Today’s Western diet is overloaded with omega-6-rich oils while lacking omega-3s, creating an imbalance linked to heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.

Your body works best when inflammation is controlled — not constantly switched on. The goal isn’t to avoid omega-6s — it’s to restore balance.
