The dog days of summer are in NC! It's a great time to wrap up this season's home maintenance. These are some tips from the NC Realtors Association.

1. Fix the roof. Have a roofer come by and check things out. Ask your insurance advisor for referrals, we have several!

2. Clean the gutters. Storm debris can clog up the system.

3. Chance the air filters. Pollen season and spending more time indoors have dirtied up the air and your filters catch the junk.

4. Check the fire alarms. Change out the batteries, because summer heat can raise fire danger.

Here are some car safety tips to make your trip headache-free!
- Check your tires and tire pressure. Hot roads can impact tire quality and safety.
- Never leave pets or children unattended in a parked car.
- Make sure your AC is working properly. It can stress your car if it's not operating well.

DID YOU KNOW about 14,000 school buses carry 800,000 students are about to head back to school on NC roads. According to the National Safety Council, there were 128 school bus-related deaths in 2023.

The vast majority of victims were not drivers or passengers on the bus:

9 were bus passengers
2 were bus drivers
87 were occupants of another vehicle
24 were pedestrians

In 2022, the U.S. Department of Transportation reports that there were:

5,189 citations for speeding in a school zone
968 charges for failure to stop for a school bus

!! Passing a stopped school bus can add four insurance points to a policy, potentially doubling automobile insurance premiums.
