πΈ Ladies, not every itch is a yeast infection, and not every unusual discharge means you have an STI!
Let's talk about something many women experience but don't always feel comfortable discussing: va**nal infections, urinary tract infections and reproductive health.
Have you ever experienced an unusual va**nal odour, itching, burning when you p*e, pelvic pain or discharge that looks different from what you're used to? You're definitely not alone.
The tricky thing about women's intimate health is that different infections can have very similar symptoms.
π A yeast infection (Candida) can cause intense itching, irritation and thick white discharge.
π Bacterial vaginosis (BV) happens when the natural balance of va**nal bacteria is disrupted. It may cause a fishy smell and thin greyish or white discharge.
π Urinary tract infections (UTIs) commonly cause a burning sensation when urinating, frequent trips to the toilet and lower abdominal discomfort.
π Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, ge***al herpes and HPV may cause symptoms, but some women have absolutely no symptoms at all.
π Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) can develop when certain infections spread to the upper reproductive organs. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to serious complications, including fertility problems.
And here's something every woman needs to understand: your va**na is not supposed to smell like perfume! A mild natural scent and normal va**nal discharge are part of a healthy reproductive system.
Not every change means something is wrong, but persistent itching, unusual discharge, strong unfamiliar odours, painful urination or pelvic discomfort shouldn't be ignored.
πΏ A few intimate health reminders:
β
Avoid va**nal douching and inserting products to "cleanse" your va**na.
β
Practise safer s*x and get tested for STIs when appropriate.
β
Don't repeatedly treat yourself for thrush without confirming what's causing your symptoms.
β
Seek medical advice when symptoms persist or keep returning.
β
Remember that good va**nal health is about balance, not achieving a particular smell.
