Today, a simple tennis ball gave me a radical reminder of how intelligent the human body truly is.
It was the first time, in years of using a ball for knots, that I could finally let go enough and guide myself into a solid emotional release. Why? Because this hurts, it’s is not as gentle as my other approaches, and my system literally could not deal with it. It is irrelevant how much pain you can hold or carry, it is a question of when you should or shouldn’t and whether you add more to what is currently happening.
I have come a long way with this body of mine, and today felt great, like I hit a major milestone.
Not as gentle as my other approaches, this hurts, discernment is important, and feeling safe.
As a bodywork facilitator and Energy healer, I work with tension every day. But today, using a tennis ball for a simple myofascial release turned into something much deeper—a full somato-emotional release.
Our fascia doesn’t just store physical knots; it anchors our emotional history, unexpressed stress, and stored trauma. When we apply intentional, targeted pressure, we aren’t just breaking up physical tension. We are unlocking the gates of the nervous system, allowing TRE-type emotional purging to bubble to the surface.
If you’ve ever found yourself weeping, shaking, or suddenly breathing differently on a massage table or a ball—your body is doing exactly what it was built to do.
Have you ever noticed that double, stuttered inhale your body does involuntarily when you cry? Mine was in the tripples today!
In neuroscience, that is called a Physiological Sigh. It is a double inhale through the nose (one deep breath, plus a quick “top-up” sip) followed by a long, slow sigh out of the mouth. Your body does it automatically to reinflate collapsed air sacs in the lungs and instantly down-regulate your fight-or-flight response.
When you are on the ball or moving through a heavy emotional purge, don’t suppress that breath. Lean into it. Take those double inhales. Let the body sigh it out.
Healing isn’t just a mental exercise. It lives in the tissues.
