Consumer and Community Involvement Program Consumers, community members and researchers working together in partnership to make decisions about research priorities, policies and practice

The Consumer and Community Involvement Program brings together and supports consumers, community members and researchers to work together in partnership to make decisions about research priorities, policies and practice. Our vision is for consumer and community involvement to become standard practice in research activities. We are committed to embedding the community voice into health and medical research through our services, resources, events and training programs. The CCIProgram welcomes you to our online community. We encourage you to contribute to our page and be considerate and respectful when posting or commenting. Any posts deemed to be offensive will be removed. Lower limb amputations can adversely affect quality of life. We are using advanced scanning techniques to characterise and identify the type of calcium build up in the arteries in the legs, in an effort to predict who may go on to have a lower limb amputation due to poor blood supply or other reasons. Join a Consumer Advisory group and work with the research team to co-design the project, so that we focus on the priorities that matter most to people who have this lived experience.

We are looking to engage with people with lived experience of:
➑️ Peripheral arterial disease of the lower limbs, or with people who have recurrent infections or poor blood supply to their legs
➑️ Lived experience with a lower limb amputation
➑️ Carers of people with this lived experience

A $50 per hour honorarium is offered.

We are looking for women with lived experience of the postpartum period to join the Steering Committee for 'Stepping Back In' - a new research project at The University of Western Australia. We are interested in hearing your perspective as someone with lived experience of the postpartum period. You may be asked to provide feedback on areas such as how we recruit women to the research, the accessibility and acceptability of the program, study materials and communication, and how the findings are shared with women and the wider community.

We are looking for women who:
πŸ‘‰ have lived experience of the postpartum period;
πŸ‘‰ feel comfortable sharing their perspectives and ideas in a supportive group setting;
πŸ‘‰ are interested in improving opportunities for women to be physically active and socially connected after having a baby;

Have you had early screening for Cancer (bowel, breast, lung cancer etc.)? Would you prefer to have this screening done once rather than multiple different cancer screening tests?

This research represents a first step in developing a non-invasive cancer screening test that can detect multiple different subtypes at once. The current cancer screening landscape is organ-specific, meaning individuals often need to undergo multiple different cancer screening tests in order to complete a comprehensive screen.

Consumers will be required to attend regular quarterly meetings with the research team to integrate their lived experiences in all phases of research planning, recruitment, and implementation. Consumers who are interested may also be asked to be involved in the research itself, which would involve a one-hour appointment at the Lions Eye Institute Nedlands.

A $50 per hour honorarium is offered. Find out more & apply πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4qCoBfh

Can a specialised PET camera detect Infection and inflammation?

Researchers are developing a specialised PET scan that may detect infections and inflammation anywhere in the body, including cases that cannot be identified through standard imaging or blood tests.

The project aims to improve earlier diagnosis, treatment decisions, and antibiotic use. Consumers will work alongside the research team to provide lived experience insights, help guide study design, review materials, and support the translation of this promising technology into healthcare practice.

If you are a person, or a carer of a person, who has lived experience with moderate or severe infection, including a history of infection that has been difficult to diagnose, we encourage you to apply πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4cdcmjt
