I hear this all the time - women who feel like nothing’s changed, but their body is changing.

Weight gain, bloating, fatigue, joint pain…

Here’s what changed *quietly* over months and years, especially leading up to and in perimenopause.

1. insulin sensitivity has decreased.

This means your body is more sensitive to carbohydrates, because with the fluctuation and eventual loss of estrogen, your body will be more inefficient in handling glucose. This means your blood sugar becomes more erratic, which leads to inflammation and a slow creep of weight gain
How you eat carbs and manage your blood sushi has to be top of mind in your 30’s and beyond (especially if you want a stable happy mood, easier weight maintenance, little to no cravings and to feel in control of your health).

2. Your liver is overburdened

This workhorse of the body not only never gets a break, but its tasked with dealing with toxins found in makeup, skin and haircare (like parabens and phthalates) which disrupt estrogen detoxification and further worsen hormone imbalances. Add to that alcohol, blood sugar fluctuations (which also tax the liver) plus a general lack of the factors needed for phase 1 and 2 liver detox (adequate protein, b vitamins, selenium, vitamin C etc) and we have ourselves a sluggish engine.

3. Nutrient depletion

Most women in their 30’s have been through post secondary, are in the workforce, have been married, had kids, survived postpartum etc and are in a depleted state. Lacking minerals such as potassium and magnesium and vitamins like C and B and they wonder why they’re thyroid and metabolism isn’t working! They literally don’t have the raw material to support these processes.

4. Inflammation is happening (silently)

While your blood labs look good on paper, you’re just looking for answers in the wrong place.

Your gut microbiome is a single largest hidden source of inflammation in the body, that has the ability to massively impact your brain, mood hormones, immune system, thyroid, even your insulin sensitivity, and yet it is largely ignored for most of our lives. Testing vs guessing!

While every woman on social media is being sold, fancy pills, potions and strategies to detoxify their body, create more GLP, replace their hormones or dial in every macronutrient that goes into their bodies, there is an easier, more effective way.

It’s like we’ve missed the end goal, which is to build a life that actually promotes our health, from how we wake up, move through our day, put food on our plate, bookmark and end our day after being productive, happy, peaceful, and confident in our body and mind.

I’m not so sure that the focus on pharmaceuticals, peptides, calorie counting, over exercising, under nourishing and taking random supplements (without knowing what you need) is actually going to be what it takes to achieve optimal health as a woman in the modern world.

In fact, I know it wont. I’ve never seen someone in my 20 years in health and wellness, become “healthy” with meds or hacks alone, rather there are 7-8 pillars of women’s health that need to be addressed (yet most women focus on 1-2, diet and exercise).

That’s why women are struggling with these quick fix fancy methods or tedious diets, and thinking they’re “doing everything”.

When in reality, they’ve bypassed the basics and are now in so deep in information overwhelm, confused and frustrated as they don’t know what’s missing.

That’s why I built a curriculum inside my happy gut reset program, where I teach you week by week all the boring basics that become the new *sustainable* version of how you operate through your day-to-day and build a body that keeps inflammation low, hormones supported and gut health at the forefront, so you have the energy mood, body and health that you want to move forward with for years to come.

The truth is not everyone is willing to do the work that is required to actually restore their health.

The normal lab tests, the feeling dismissed or unheard by your doctor…the waiting months for specialist, only to be given more meds or more blood tests or scans.. None of it has to be your reality anymore.

You just need to decide that you’re ready to invest in yourself in your health, in your future and move your care outside of the limitations in the medical system (which are wonderful at acute care/broken bones/emergencies) but when it comes to chronic daily symptoms that impact your energy, your mood, your sleep, your motivation and drive, your confidence - YOUE LIFE.

These things are always within your control (even if you’ve been told otherwise).

You’re doing all the “right” things

Eating clean.
Working out.

Most women think they’re “just constipated.”

They try more fibre. More water. Another diet. Another supplement.

Should you or shouldn’t you supplement omega 3 fatty acids/fish oil?

Also of the thousands we tested when I worked in preventative health (and of the hundreds I’ve tested in my program) over 95% are deficient in omega 3’s.

If you aren’t willing to eat the SMASH fish 🐠 then getting your omega 3’s through high quality supplementation may be a good idea to consider.
