Thank you to those of you who are sharing about this kind of care with others! We know that so many folx are interacting out of the public eye (most certainly our preferred spaces for engagement, too!). For those of you who have been considering this care for a month or a year...or two years, how deeply we trust that process.

Both Michelle and I came into psychospiritual support via winding paths. I think I knew about spiritual direction for almost a decade before I finally booked my first session! There's a whole lot of Miracle and Mystery in the coming together of a compassionate listener and a "directee" (the woman who is ready to listen to what her own life is saying and just needs a companion for that journey). If you're ready, we so look forward to connecting with you. If you're not ready yet, we knowknowknow that you will be met by the Wisdom-Peace-Compassion teachers that you are ready for.

Remember these?! Something as simple as little blue thermos may have been a Nurture Teacher to our young selves. An Affection Teacher. A Belonging Teacher.

Even if you didn't experience an affectionate parent, a safe religious leader, a nurturing home, or safety at school, your Life might have brought you into contact with safety, nurture, and affection teachers. This might have been a pet, a stuffed toy, a spot in nature, or even a thermos! Maybe it was a loving human; perhaps it was a storybook. It can be helpful to ask ourselves, "Who were my (insert need or longing here) teachers?" Allow your imagination to take you back into moments of reassurance, hope, or even joy when you were a Little. Does a smell rise to mind? A toy? A person?

For Michelle as a child, this thermos brought her to warmth, safety, and nourishment in a tumultuous time.

Sometimes when things are on the wobble, when trauma voices are noisy, or when we just need grounding in a sketchy moment, it can be helpful to return to the "teachers" of our past. Reminders that Goodness and Wonder and Grounding exist right alongside the troubling and unresolved.

As Mental Health Week comes to a close, we are reminded that mental health is shaped not only by individual experiences, but also by the safety, support, and connection people find within their communities.

This week encourages conversations that reduce stigma, strengthen understanding, and remind people that they do not have to face challenges alone.

At Big Hill Haven, we know that supporting mental wellbeing and preventing violence are deeply connected. Prevention requires connection but it is about more than connection alone. It requires environments where people feel safe, respected, and supported, where healthy relationships are encouraged, and where individuals and families can access help before challenges become crisis.

Thank you to everyone who continues to have these conversations, supports one another, and contributes to a community grounded in compassion, dignity, and hope. We are grateful to do this work alongside you. 💙
