Twenty years ago, I graduated from CCNM as a Naturopathic Doctor.
I wasn’t sure how it would all play out, as naturopathic medicine wasn’t well known or accepted at the time, but I knew in my soul that it was what I wanted to do and how I truly felt I could help people.
The first photo was taken that day with my Father- my biggest supporter. Today also marks 13 years since his passing.
He taught me the values that continue to guide me every day: integrity, honesty, humility, the importance of asking the right questions and truly listening to what people have to say.
The second photo is from our 20 year class reunion with classmates who have become lifelong friends. We grew together as students, as practitioners, and as people. The bond we share is one I’ll always treasure.
We became practitioners who supported one another, stayed humble in our growth as healers, and worked from a mindset of knowing we were always stronger when we worked together.
I’ve learned that while supplements can be valuable tools, they can never replace the foundations of health: a balanced nervous system, good nutrition, movement, sleep, meaningful connection, and of course a healthy microbiome.
Twenty years in practice has taught me that health is rarely simple. It cannot be reduced to a protocol or a double blind placebo controlled study. Each person has a unique combination of genetics, biochemistry, life experiences, trauma, infections, environmental exposures, and microbiome influences.
Experience teaches you to listen more carefully.
To ask better questions.
To recognize patterns.
To know when to investigate further.
To understand when the best course of action is to refer.
And to be comfortable saying, “I don’t know, but we’ll figure it out together.”
Each person brings a unique story and some of the most meaningful healing begins when they feel truly heard.
The stories my patients share stay with me and what a privilege to be trusted enough to hear them.
I feel grateful to my Father, my classmates, and every patient who has trusted me with their care. And to my husband and children who continue to support and motivate me each and every day 🤍
